Ok i've never been much of a DIY man, but the lack of light in this nano is starting to bug me! 128L tank with 2x24W PC's. I mean come on! :p My 24G JBJ has 72W at least!

Here's a pic of hood on the new tank:

As you can see they've used the 24W PC's instead of the 36W PC's because they've put in a "slide function" for the hood. thus the areas on either side of the splash guard will need to be cut out in order to put in wider lighting.

Basically here's what i'm asking:

1.) Would somebody help me to upgrade these lights? (I'm not so used to DIY stuff, especially lighting! Also worried I would ruin my hood as I don't know what i'm doing exactly. hehe

2.) Would it be best to try squeeze in another 24W, or would it be best to cut away the side bits (stupid "slide function") and install 36W PC's. Although I take it i'd need a new splashguard then?

I don't know where to look for the parts i'd need and i'm not sure on the best tools to use?

If anyone is good at DIY, please lend a hand ;)

Many thanks

Mekaeel: think my best option is to put in some 36W PC's?

3x36W PC's would be great (108W over 128L). I just don't have the skills or technical know how to do it.

I'm sure there's gotta be a helpful DIY guy out there ;) hehe

How about removing hood completely and suspending a 150W MH pendant above ?
That's what I would do, either that or try and cut out the current lights and try to mount a 150w MH in the hood, although I'm not too sure if the heat from the MH would melt the plastic hood.

To cut the mould casing will make it weak, and then you would have a sagging of hood. I can see from the pic the moulded hood would be hollow internally [is this correct]. If so the wall thickness wont be very thick as it is designed in such away to give maximum strength to carry what ever the designer had in mind. So either have another one built or as Dendrosa mentioned

Hmmm, not too keen on topless anymore (quite like the closed system, less evap and I do regular waer changes to put nutrients back into the water)

Would it be possible to fit another 24W PC in there?
