Howzit fellow reefers.

I have a Denon AVR 2105 amplifier with Boston Acoustic CR 105 main speakers, PV 500 sub woofer, CRC centre and CR 57 rear speakers. This system was sold to me by a reputable HiFi store as a matched system. The amp keeps blowing the right front channel. The agents say its the speakers. When you measure the resistance on the main speakers with meter it comes in at 4 ohms and the speakers label says 8 ohms. They recon this is why the amp is blowing each time. On the rear of the amp the label says rated for 6 to 16 ohms. The speaker importers say the meter used is incorrect. It needs to be a special meter that reads impedence and the reading of 4 ohms is correct even though the speakers are 8 ohm units. Although Im no expert the impedence and resistance are the same thing to me. They say there is nothing wrong with the speakers. At the agents repair centre they ran the amp on other speakers that read 8 ohms on the meter and it did not blow. I got the amp home on Friday and ran it on all the other speakers except the mains. It ran fine. This afternoon I connected the two mains and it blew within 10 minutes and I hadnt even cranked up the volume....it blew on -16Db.

So the amp people say its the speakers and the speaker people say thay are fine. What do I do now? This system cost a huge amount of cash. I cant just have to buy new speakers. Surely there must be something I can do to prove or disprove the main speakers are at fault. Is there anyone in the game that can give me some advice here please. Amazing there isnt even a HiFi forum in SA where I can ask such questions. Hopefully some reefkeeping dudes work in the game and can help out here.

ANY ASSISTANCE OR ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Thanks in advance

Leigh

It is the Speaker. And the amp guys are correct, common problem with brand. You not going get any joy from the importer. Look at another brand, Polk, JBL, Quad etc.

If you want to spend the time contact the manufacturer direct.

Thanks for the help

So thats means I just trash the cash I spent and buy more plus the expense of repairing the amp each time.

All I got to say is B&W Nautilus, meant to be the best, and keeps with a marine theme, and you might need a few (8) Mark Levinson monoblocks to go with that. :p

B&W are wicked and most mono do the job. Bit pricey
