Looking great man! What are you running in your canister filter? Please tell me you have removed all those bio balls and ceramic rings?

we haven't changed anything in the cannister, the biol balls are definately still in there but im not 100% sure on the ceramic rings, its something we only open every 6 months to give a clean. the tank is a 250l Juwel

hey antolo nice tank man, reminds me alot of my tank in the start.

ok now may i suggest something? take all those bioballs and ceramic rings out handful by handful every week until you have non left then give it to a koi pond owner because thats where it belongs;) ,seriously you should, as you have a little nitrate factory there which will come back to bite you in the long run bro.also the cannister filter is a freshwater thing remove it IMO.

how long is the tank running now?those mushrooms look cool man i also have some:p

The tank has been running for well over a year now, do you really think its necissary to remove the cannister?

Yes rather now than later when its too late and your rocks are ridden with phos and nitrates deep inside which is hard to rectify.

your skimmer should be removing all the detritus ideally.
right now in your set-up alot of it is settling in your cannister filter and being converted into nitrates and phosphates.

Antolo, what Falcon said is very true I am afraid. The bio balls and ceramic rings must come out but PLEASE do it slowly. You can use the canister for chemical filtration if you want to but I personally would remove all sponges and filter floss unless you are going to clean it out weekly. You could put a phosphate remover in it as well as perhaps some purigen.

please bare in mind that we do not have a sump.

    we have running

1)Reef octopus hang on back skimmer
    2)cannister
    3)Juwel filter

will removing the cannister and having no sump not cause us more problems?
