Hi All, My name is Anthony and I have just joined up. Most of my Life I have had Tropical Fish and now I want to start up a Marine Tank. I Live in Dana Bay and have a Fishing Tackle Shop in Mossel Bay. Can anybody help with names of good books on Marine Tanks and also contacts of Pet Shops that I can contact for starting up a Tank. Cape Town is also OK for the Pet Shops.

    Thanks, Anthony

Welcome Anthony, you have come to the right place. I dont trust books as most we get on the shelf in SA are "outdated".

Its like the old PC argument...once you learn how to use it ...there is a new model :p

I will be in Hartenbos Saturday for a few hours & Sunday morning for a few, we can meet somewhere and discuss what yo have in mind

Thanks very much, that will be very nice. We are going to George on Saturday Afternoon, but can meet either before we go(+-13:00) or on the way back(+-17:00) or Sunday Morning, just let us know which would suit you.

Welcome to MASA, glad you joined us. Before you splash out on books, read the FREE link in my signature - some good info for you there ;)
Take a look in our sponsors forum and ask us if you want to know something - a lot of experience on here. Be patient as bad things can go wrong very quickly in this hobby.

Anthony, don't post your private number on the net unless you want rapers and perves all over you :p
Rather PM someone - you just click on the guys name and you'll see "send a private message to..." ;)

A VERY WARM WELCOME to MASA, Anthony! Great to have you on-board, mate!

I see that some of the guys have already assisted you well.

Please have a read through the URL link in my signature as well (about "Starting a marine aquarium").

Also - have a browse through the other forums on MASA. Have a look at the other member's tanks. Decide what you can afford (space wise), then get some quotes from the MASA sponsors....

Also - once you have set yourself a goal, let the MASA members assist you in achieving that goal.

    Just please remember the following:
    - EVERYTHING in the hobby of keeping marines, is about PATIENCE and KNOWLEDGE!
You need to be extremely patient - and you need to make knowledgeable decisions.

    Good luck with your journey!

There used to be (some 6-8 years ago...) a petshop called Petshop Girls in Mosselbay that had a marine display tank with the hugest anemone that I've ever seen. Although they did not trade in marines, if they are still in business I'm sure that they will be able to give you some advise.

There are quite a few very knowledgeable reefers in Cape Town and surrounds, and they meet every month or so - it would be a very good idea to join them at their next meeting.

Oh, and WELCOME to MASA, and to this great hobby

I to started out with fresh water fish.Anything form guppies up to my prised Pacu's. And once you make the change to salt....Trust me you will never go back to bath water ever again.

Please take it slow and ask alot of Q's. And do it right, not like other people here in Mbay who starts a tank, runs for a day and then throws in 2 clowns and 4 anenomes with the galjoen they caught that morning and can't understand why everything and i mean EVERYTHING is going for a k@k !!! I'll be glad to share any info that ive learnd form the guru's here the last couple of months with you.
