    Hi All,

We have been wanting to take the plunge from tropical to marine for some time now and have eventually decided to do it. We have been on a very bumpy ride after following our LPS advice, (all be it mostly incorrect and a horribly costly mistake) we eventually came across Idol Marine.

Adriaan has been extremely helpful and has a new customer for life.

We have converted our 300l tropical tank to a Marine tank all with make shift filters / reactors / pumps.

In time to come Adriaan will build us a 1000l tank with all the correct filters but until then we will make do with our current mixed setup.

Thanks for the interesting reading and education so far. Look forward to be able to add pics of our reef system as soon as it is up and running. :yeahdude:

For the interim Adriaan has advised us that we run with what we have but use plenty of live rock (and stop using the canister filter that we have been doing for the last 5 months). The live rock should act as a great filter and as long as we don't load the system too much.

In time he will build us a 1000L reef tank with all the toys that we need to run it properly....we are not keen on buying twice and want the best this next time around. (He actually had the opportunity of selling us a 16k sump today and turned us down and told us to come to him when we can do the whole setup in one go with the jojo tanks and all the rectors)

Ps. Are there a lot of guys out there that have "fallen prey" to incorrect advise?

Welcome to MASA... To answer you'r question...in a nutshell...YES...waaaay to many have fallen prey to bad advice...I honestly think every Tom, Dick and Harry has "fallen prey" somewhere in his/her days/weeks/months or years of Reefkeeping..we can't know everything all the time..so even "we" can make the odd blunder, but the "Newbies" gets hit the hardest...especially with the "start up gear"...
