Sorry about another thread about a tank build but I enjoy other posts so much I decided to try one of my own.

I have been keeping marines since 2006 in tanks as small as 30 litres to my biggest at just under 2m. This is a great hobby and even though it's expensive i always tell myself I could be spending it on worse things :peroni:

Anyway when I got up to jozi I decided to get a new tank and eventually purchased a cube from TSR.

They are well built tanks and good value for the money but I just found the sumps to eb way too cramped and inevitably both travelling and a degree of neglect caused me to sell my cube and now that I am a little more settled in Jozi it was time to buy a new tank.

    What I was looking for:

    1. Bigger (always)
    2. Nice Cabinet
    3. Space to work in the DT and sump area
    4. Automated and able to run for up to two weeks without me around

I finally decided upon a 1200 X 600 X 600 tank build by Adriaan and crew at Idol marine. I live up on the 3rd Floor so anything bigger would not have made it.

I have already been informed by Adriaan that if I ever move....please not to call him again.

So in preparation for the big move step one would have to be dismantling the cube and moving the livestock.....let the fun begin

So after doubling Plastic Lands profit for the month of June i have enough tubs to last a lifetime.

I might be paranoid but I prefer clear plastic to black bins etc. due to contaminants or leeching of whatever is in that black plastic. I even had endless issues with egg crate in my propagation days so not keen to risk it.

I managed to move all my livestock with the only fatality being a single hermit.

Next step was preparing the water and getting the aquascaping done.

    And now the aquascaping.....

I am very ken on the bonsai and tower look as it gives fish lots of room to swim.

I want a mixed reef so thinking placing corals around the bottom is great and then sps branching across and up from each tower is what I wanted. I might have to be careful of not shading the corals below though.

I bought two boxes of South Seas Caribsea, washed it and soaked it. I then used clear acrylic rods from Maizeys and pratley standard to glue the rocks together. Some planning and potential placement was done on the floow to check and monitor my progress.

That is a great tank and beautifully built!

The Cabinet around is really well done, did Idols do that for you too?

Yes this is an Idol Tank.......Worked out really nicely with lots of space

Some equipment from others such as lights (Francois) and Vortechs (TSR)

Having a bit of an issue with micro bubbles but they helping me out with that. Think this is a combination of high turnover and no second baffle in the sump just before the return

@Lockes if you have any issues with the lights have a chat with @carlosdeandrade he too has pacific suns on his tank.

BTW Looking awesome. The tank in the 1st pic looks similar to the tank you had here in CTN.

I think he has a different unit and brought it in himself but stand to be corrected @carlosdeandrade

Yes it was except I did not have the luxury of a garage to hold all the filtration equipment.

Time to get this one right though. I went all out on equipment and automation so this should be a great tank
