    Hi to all.

using forums is completely new to me so please excuse me if i post or make any stupid mistakes etc.

another field i know nothing or even less of is maintaining a Marine tank.
I just had to get one anyway.

so for the next few weeks i will ask allot of questions and hopefully you guys and girls will be eager to help.

    First question:
DOES anyone know the closest LFS with descent advice and available stock regarding Marine Aquariums. I live in Alberton. Known LFS will be Wild on pets. Hoping there will be some closer.

    Second question:
I hope the other nano owners can answer this. if i want to replace the return pump with a bigger volume one can i buy any pump? Or will the Weipro pumps fit only.

Then i just want to say THANK YOU to LAWRENCE from Aquaria sa for his exellent service

yes you can as long as the pump can fit in the last compartment.. i replaced the pump with the bigger one and removed the last chamber to allow more space .. eventualy i even removed the middle chamber (where you are supposed to keep cheato and DSB) to allow for one big return compartment

you can check my album and see some of the things i did/changed on the tank

    Marine Aquariums South Africa

you will see on some of the pictures i build a overflow box to prevent the water level in the display section to drop as the water evaporates and also to allow for surface skimming... if you dont you will notice an oily film building up on the surface almost every day which will restrict the light penetration and quality

well to be honest very very high and it swings a lot between day ad night due to the small water volume... few months ago i put my hand in the water on a very hot day and was shocked to find that the water was as hot as tea... i was amazed that anything could be still alive in there. the main problem is the lid which also houses the ballasts for the t5 lights which get very hot and transfer that heat to the water, one thing you can do is keep the lid slightly open to a low the heat to escape.. i eventually connected a chiller to the tank and thats how i solved the heat issues

is your tank up and running.. do you have any livestock in it already... if not its not too late to build that overflow box... just put your live rock in a bucket and fill with water from the tank and stick the box to the back panel with SuperGlue Gel or Epoxy and fill back with water... trust me you will not regret doing that

:)its a pleasure we strive to give the best advise and service

:welcometomasa2: to MASA . I have 4 of these Nanos running for a long time and I haven't done any mods and they run great. I'm not saying you shouldn't but they have worked well std . I'm not just saying that because its my product, go look at my threads and you will see the results I have achieved with out mods. All I do is a 10% water change each week, add Kalkwasser each day with my top up , clean the filter sponge , I have a small DSB in the middle chamber and cheto and I add bacteria once a week. I have really kept it simple. You know you can also call me 24/7 for help and advise.
