    Hi there

I wanna have my own reflectors build, because I can not afford to buy ones.

A friend of mine has a company that can cut and bend.

    It is for 58W T5's

What must the angle and length for a ^ shaped reflector be?

I was planning to either paint them white, or have it epoxy coated.

    Please advise.

I would say flat in middle for screws and 45 degree angled outward. Why paint and not polished stainless?

Sucks that you are in Cape town, if you were closer to JHB, you could have bought Alneod form a company called "Arcadia".. Its the same as what you would get in the "older" type Halogen flood lights.

The stuff is really cheap, cant remember exactly, but something like R400 for a sheet, and thats enough to do 4 double, or 8 single reflectors for 1.2 m T5 lights.

I also had them bent, flat in the middle, and 45 outwards.

You could also try chrome spray paint. Around R200 for a can

Mmm, then I would go white epoxy instead of paint. Im too scared of chemicals in paint above water. Only problem with epoxy i heard is that it might not cover the sharp corners properly, thus leaving metal on corners exposed, but i might be wrong. Guys at the lamp house told me that white reflects better than a shiny surface. Did you get the same advice as me?

Why not use white perspex, its white, reflective and easy enough to bend it yourself. I just phoned Maizey plastics. 8 strips of 1.2m x 80mm x 3mm will be about R350. To bend it, lay it on a template of the desired angles and heat it up with a gas torch. The perspex will sag and take the form of the template.

I have aluminum reflectors. 1.5m long. They are flat in the middle and 45degrees angle on the sides. Works just fine, but it could be a bit more shiny i guess

    Thanx

U have a friend who can make these for me for free using either thin aluminium, or chromadek.

I decided to go for the aluminum(shiny) - and as soon as corrosion sets in, I will have them sealed with either paint, spray or epoxy coating.
