    Good evening
    I need some info please
I have just put in my first anemone in my tank. I have two clown fish in the tank as well. It now looks like the one clown fish is trying to push its head into the anemone's mouth.
Do I sump the clown or is this normal.
Long time since I have had a tank
    Thanks
    Paul

It’s called hosting. It’s in their nature. Perfectly normal.

    How old is the tank?

The clown is trying to get used to the anemone. First time it touches the anemone it is almost the same as with any other fish. Also gets stung. Will take a day or two to get used to each other.

Let it be, it will find its place. Don't mess with it too much it may get more stressed.

What type of Anemone did you get ?

    Hi
I just watch him and make sure it does not come too close to the wave makers.
This is the day after i put it in the tank he was all the way up the side of the tank in the corner.
this morning he is on one of the rocks in the middle of the tank.
The tank has been running for over a year now.

@viper357 my Nitrates are sitting are sitting just above 0, will be doing another water change this weekend.

    @RIAAN - i have 8 3w white Cree LED's and two 3w Blue Cree's

will be looking at replacing the lights soon as i have a feeling that the LED's are part their life span.

I think you're going to need considerably more light than that in the long term, magnifica's require intense lighting to survive.
That's fine, nothing to worry about there.

    So a 30w light unit?

Not going to work. No wonder the anemone is all over.

Especially magnifica, if they sit that high up on the tank glass, then they are looking for some light. And depending on how deep is your tank and how high is the rockstack, I doubt it will find a happy place. Rockstack needs to be almost to the surface directly under the light unit.

The Radion Gen 2 units are 135w per unit. New Gen 4 are 185w per unit if not mistaken. OK, OK, they are top end units, there are cheaper units around but I do not know all the lights out there wattage. Just to give you an idea what you need. SPS corals will also need a lot of intense light. Softies like mushrooms might be happy under 30w, again depending on tank depth.

    again depending on tank depth.

More how deep under the water surface are your corals on the rocks. That is more an accurate question as to asking how deep is your tank. Some guys do have rather high rockstacks, coming up past 50% of their tank depth. Or even higher.

Other guys like a lot more open feeling, less rock, lower rock stack. (Also not that heavy on the pocket)

But the question is actually, how far must light travel through the water before reaching your corals?
