My question, into how many parts do anemones split "normally"?
How many is normal? (Obvious 2 - duh)
Can they split into more than 2?
And if more than 2, into how many "babies"?
And which type of anemone if more than 2?

I'm lucky, that in the last couple on months my Inferno anemones decided to split. Before I say what happened to them, lets hear what are other reefers experiences.

I know it's very possible for 4 and I read some guy in the states had his split 8 times in one shot.
    I've never had a split.
@RiaanP I think you need to sponsor me one to add to my collection

My Inferno nennie just split a week ago, took about three weeks to completely split, which had me slightly stressed out. Its been in my tank for around 16 months but split into 2 as normal....

Splitting into 2 is the norm. When u cut them u can try for maybe 3 but wouldn't go more than that also depending on the size of the nennie. I've cut mine plenty and tried to b greedy and cut it into 8 and I think 1 might have survived else lost them all. Bubble tips are the easiest to cut but just need to handle the nennie correctly when taking it off what ever it is attached too

    OK, I got Inferno anemones
First my son's inferno split into 2.
Same day, the anemone in the nano tank also split, into 3.
This Sunday past, one in my main display split into 4.

The last one, went under the rocks beginning of the year, bleaching himself. Eventually came out and I at one point manage to put him in an old clam shell. Placed the shell sideways. After 2 weeks ago tank redo, I must have placed the shell in a way the anemone did not like, seems they do not want light on their feet. And it climbed out. In the process of climbing out, moving away, it split into 4. 2 of them moved deep under the rocks, in the shade, other 2 is OK with enough light. Will give them time to adjust before disturbing them.

So it seems that for inferno's, multiple splits are not that uncommon.

    yes yes.
Problem with them are that they sit with their foot deep within the rock. Basically need to split the rock open to get then out. And the rock pieces they are on are 10kg plus rocks.

My sons tank got one that should be easy, it is on the back glass. But he will not be happy with me.

Wow, don't think I've ever heard of a 3 or 4 way split.

will check if I can take a picture over the weekend. Two of them is a bit deep and under the rocks, awkward camera angle.

    OK, 2 really crap photo's

Anemone used to be inside the clam shell. Climbed out and split. Here are two parts on opposite sides of the shell.

And another two parts deeper down below the rockwork. Cannot take a picture with flash, as the flash reflects against the glass.
Anyway, in the center is one, and another directly below it. They are on a 18kg rock. They will come out when they feel ready for the light.

I think the way to get inferno bubble tips to move, possibly to split. Is to turn them so that light falls on their base / feet. They want to sit on the underside of a rock, extending out and up. After my tank reshuffle, the clam ended up facing up and open where before the move it was sideways.

This is just what I found, my experience. Yours might react differently. Or just move and not split. Maybe it is not big enough / ready / matured enough to want to split.
