I have upgraded my lighting to 3x24w PL tubes in the Boyu TL550 and I have added a 60L sump with a DSB.

Is there an anemone which will survive in my tank and one which my clown fish will adapt too?

My tank is about 16mnths old and I have excellent water parameters excpet for the nitrates which hover around 15. Hence the reason I added the sump.

I really want an anemone for the clowns, they look lost without one.

Let's wait for Brenda, but she will probably want to know what species of clowns you got. Just for ease of mind - clowns will survive just fine without an anemone. Most clowns in the hobby are probably captive bred and doesn't even know what a nennie looks like ;)

Another thing, dilute those nitrates with a few regular water changes and find the cause why they are so high :)

A GBTA (Green Bubble Tip Anemone) should be ok under those lights, but it all depends on what clownfish you have as there are only certain anemone's that will host with certain species of clownfish.

    Hi Kevin,

I don’t know much about the Boyu TL550. To my knowledge they are not available here in the states. Can you tell me the height of the tank? How many liters of water does the DT hold? Are you able to keep the tank at a suitable temperature with the sump? What other tank mates do you have? What species of clownfish are you considering?

I do 16% water changes every two weeks. The nitrates never change. This is why I have installed a sump to try and reduce the nitrates. Hopefully this will help.

    Thanks.

It is a 130L nano tank. Approximately 60cm high (23.6 inches). My sump is approximately 60L with a DSB (still new) and an ATS (still new).

The clown fish are the standard Percula ones. I have two. I also have one cardinal fish and a few cleaner shrimps and a harlequin shrimp. Plenty hermit crabs (all freindly), a few brittle stars and a turbo snail.

    Thanks for your help

Sorry Kevin, I mis-read this the first time and I took the "PL" as "PC"

    Is this a T5 bulb?

I am not a lighting expert but as far as I know it is a 23W HO compact flourescent bulb rated at 10000K. They are dual bulbs with one white and one actinic side. I have three of them so it works out to 69W in total.

I think you are going to be lacking lighting with these. Have you been able to keep any coral under these bulbs for any lenght of time?

If you can grow Frogspawan under this lighting in this tank size, you can keep a BTA (E. quadricolor).

What does the the PL stand for?

I have a few candy cane corals (they have exploded in growth). I also have a few different types of mushrooms which also have overgown themselves.

I have a two head torch coral, which is also doing well.

The star polyps are still going, but the Flameback angelfish ate them so I cannot determine how well they grow.

I also have a few button polyps which are growing well.

This reef eating machine is not a good tank mate with anemones.
