    Hi Guys,

Bought this at a nearby LFS but when I asked the owner of the store about the name of the anemone he said he could not remember the exact name.

The photos were taken in the first few days while it was still acclimating to the tank. The tentacles are a bit longer now the he has opened up all the way.

Can anyone assist in identifying this?

    Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it might be a majano anemone as it doesn't resemble the normal types we buy. Not sure really.

not mojano. Then it would have been green.

Looks very much like the smaller rock anemones that is plenty in the rockpools. Although the disk is a bit big and the fingers to think.

    Thanks guys.

I attached some photos taken last night. The fingers have thinned out a bit. The colour is not clearly visible in the photos but it is orange. It also eats like crazy and thought it wouldn't survive because my nano tank has only been running for 2 months but to thus far it has been doing well.

No, but it has been adjusting from a tank which had snails in it with barely any light to my tank which it is getting full blown light for 10 hours a day.

Originally it didn't like the new environment at all, didn't want to eat and barely opened up (if look at the first few photos). It has been in the new tank for just over a week now and seems to slowly be getting used to the new environment. It eats a piece of shrimp or hake at least once a day. It hasn't moved from its current spot so I am assuming it likes that spot. I am trying to nurse it slowly back to its original state.

Yup, some sort of rock pool anemone...

If you touch it, does it close up?

Yes, very sensitive to movement on and around the tank. Closes almost completely into a ball.

Ok so as a newby I had no idea that keeping this kind of anemone is a shameful thing... I think I was too hasty when I bought livestock and this was the only item I did not research before hand. So we learn.

Is it a bad thing to keep a rock pool anemone? Will I get a hiding for mentioning the shop's name?

There isn't anything wrong with the poor lil ninnie,
It's just like any other anemone, becareful with having around other corals etc.

The reason why Norries said you should take it back,
Is because it's not illegal to sell/trade/swop/give local fish/coral etc.

So if you paid for it, the petshop did something illegal.

IF it is indeed a local species...
