Hi, my cleaner shrimp has tried to eat my small purple tip anemone, will it recover?

Damn!! you sure it was the cleaner shrimp? I would imagine the nennie would consider the shrimp as a meal.... How long has the anemone been in the tank? Is it eating? Looks to me like it's about to split...

Also looks like a Sebae Anemone and not a Bubble tip...

Its been in the tank a week, I found the shrimp taking it apart. It has not taken food from me, tried to feed it a piece of lance fish. The shrimp was not afraid, it tried to eat again after I chased it away. Sorry thought is was purple tip. Would be sad if it died. What do you think the odds are?

How old is this Tank..? It was only 2 weeks ago that you mentioned about the Tank you were in the process of setting up..

Surely this isn't the same Tank.....

If not, then can you give spec's of the Tank the Nennie is in now and water parameters and Lights..as I'm inclined to believe it's stressing..

Shrimps will often dig food out of the stomachs of LPS corals and Anemones

The spesific tank is 7 months old. 4 x t5 HO lights. dKH of 9.3 ALK 3.30, temp is 24 - 25 no nitrate problems. The other 2 remaining anemones are doing fine. The one is a sand anemone, and the other a bubble tip. The shrimp just seem to have decided to start eating it. very weird.

can shrimps and anemones be kept without problems? Or was this just a once off? The shrimp ignores the other anemones.

As far as I know, they can be kept together...

There is some debate about the Peppermint Shrimp...just some "useless info"..but it does mention that Shrimps do snatch food from the Nennie...

Will peppermint shrimp eat bubble tips?

Have you considered Alan's reply..that you just happen to have one of those Shrimps that goes digging..

I would suggest that this particular nennie is highly stressed.

The nennie looks like it is either splitting (which is a sign of stress) or unfortunately it is on its way out.

The shrimp is either scavanging food from the splitting nennie or is scavanging a dying nennie.

It is well documented that nennies even of the same species but not genetically identical (twins from a splitting nennie) will tend to engage in chemical warefare ... the warefare can take months ... you may be seeing the end of the war...

I would suggest a water change and carbon in an attempt to remove the potency of the warefare alternatively finding another tank for the nennie .....

    Agreed!

This anemone is bleached. This is probably not caused by the shrimp. How long have you had this anemone. Was it white when you got it?
