As you may have already noticed, my time spent on here over the last few months has been limited.

My 90 year old grandmother’s health has started to rapidly decline, from falls to heart problems.

On Tuesday I found her sitting in her recliner disoriented, unable to get up, and in the same clothes that she was in the day before. She didn’t move out of her chair for 19 hours. Her dinner that I gave her before I left was still sitting on the kitchen table, uneaten.

She is currently bleeding internally (somewhere), running a fever, and still confused. She is in a lot of pain, but unable to tell us where it hurts, or what happened. Today they gave her two units of blood. I hope that when I return tonight she is better. More tests are scheduled for tomorrow.

For now, I am spending my days and nights at the hospital, with the exception of about 2 hours a day when my mother relieves me.

Sorry to hear of your grandmothers poor health. I pray that things will improve.

Take your time, do what you need to do ans spend as much time as you can with her, we will still be here in the future.

    Thank you everyone!
My grandmother has shown some improvement. It appears the bleeding has stopped for now. The doctors believe she either has colon cancer, or a polyp that is bleeding. Unfortunately, the doctors feel that doing a colonoscopy on her may do more harm than good based on her age and other health problems. So for now we are going to wait. We did learn that she was dehydrated when I found her. She also has fluids on both knees which is causing the pain. The doctors are considering draining the fluids and giving her steroid injections. If we can get her walking again I will take her home and I will stay with her. If we can’t get her walking again, we are going to be forced to put her in a nursing home. :(

Eish Brenda - really really sorry to hear about your gran. It is never nice to hear about things that "go wrong" with our family members.

I really hope and pray for the best for your gran. All the best to you and your family in this trying time.

Grandmother went to the nursing home last week for physical therapy. Yesterday she took 5 steps (with help). I'm still hoping that she can go home some day. The bad news, my mother fell and broke her pelvis. :( I need a stiff drink!
