    Hi guys,

I had this idea regarding an in-tank algae scrubber. It basically entails partitioning off a small section of your tank, lengthwise, into an overflow chamber. At the top you site half a PVC pipe, with slots lengthwise and crosswise as necessary, underneath which you affix your chosen algae substrate sheets. I've drawn it as one length of PVC, but ideally you'd want it in sections (perhaps with a nylon rope "handle") for easy removal. At the back you have a simple luminaire directing the light from a couple of CFLs, onto the algae screen.

And you'd of course need to mask the inner panel off (with black stick-on vinyl or whatever) to keep that light out of the tank.

The idea is that water flows over the entire width of the inner panel, into the "cup" shape of the PVC pipe and down the sheets to the bottom, where it is drained to your sump as normal.

    Comments?

    Thanks!

I would be very afraid to heat up that back glass more than the others. Yeah the heat will move away with the water movement, But I would not try it on my build.

And the most irritating part of an algae scrubber is to take that screen out without getting anything else wet as well.

Hmmm... are CFL's really capable of producing that much heat so that it cracks?
