We have received a great shipment of American fish and clean-up crew as well as some beautiful Ricordea today.

This is just some of what we have, we also got big Turbo's and Mexican turbo's.
    Also some beautifully coloured Rics.

Come through to Idol to have a look at this great stock or top up on provisions.

    New at Idol

Something new at Idol that we have been working on for a while, and that has had a great
response, is our new offering of custom Artificial reefs.

We can supply custom built coral reefs or a more interesting rock foundation for live corals.
Once submerged and with light flickering over it, the average guy has no idea whether this is a living reef or not, he's just enjoying the fish.

While we realise that this is not for everyone, we feel that there is a place for artificial reefs in our hobby.

There are definite advantages too. Think of all the big angels and butterflies and triggers that we could now keep.

Also think how much easier it is to treat diseases like white-spot in a fish only system.

And your corals stay looking good whatever happens. Also no fancy lights and circulation
    required.

All you guys that think that they might prefer a slightly easier time in the hobby might want to
come an have a look at what we have to offer.

    See you at Idol Soon.;)

I like the artificial reef idea.... I agree, not for everyone, but it's so difficult to get a FO tank looking good, hopefully this will now change that.

How long does it take to make a custom reef or scape ?

Sorry for the very late reply.

It takes a couple of week to make the reefs, it's very labour intensive many coats of paint etc.

    Cheers

    Rob.

The more i look at the artificial reef the more i am starting to like it. For a fish only system this can add some real nice colour. What would prices be like ???

Rob, will this not affect the water (I always wanted to know, especially when watching Fish Tank Kings), and would it ever be possible to add real coral with artificial coral???

Prices vary. It is hard to quote of the top of our heads. Each piece is invidually made from scratch, there is no basic mould. The entire rock is then painstakingly hand painted. I am busy having one made for my tank. It should be ready soon.
Here is the work in progress.

These guys have been doing this for about 20 years, mostly internationally, and they have never had a problem.:)

What you see there is one of two reefs that went into a 2meter tank. The total for that tanks reefs were around R28 000.00.

This is a large amount but when one considers what the rock and coral would cost it's not so much.;)

Also it doesn't die on you if your parameters go out.:)

    Very useful for many aquarists.
