Is it possible to use normal metal halides purchased at a normal lighting store?

    Hi Nabeel

Yes you can use normal metal halide units from a lighting store .

But you will need to purchase the correct globes from a reef shop.

TSR do Metal Halides all aluminium fixtures for R 2099 this includes a 14000 k Globe and hanging kit

Hi Nabeel, yes you can, I used such a unit for over a year with good results. Also, when you chat to the guys at the store they can even order higher kelvin rating globes for their units(14000k for example) and it's usually well priced.

If you order their globes which you can usually get in reputable brand names like Philips etc I'm sure the quality would be more than acceptable.

Obviously brands like Giesseman for example will probably still provide better PAR readings...

I'm running 4 mh on my tank.. Works, but you will get better spread from a unit meant for reefs and also mine looks ghetto as hell lol..

Well you will probably only find 150W mh's and they are normally double ended. Easy to get marine globes for them
