    Hey guys! I've noticed a few things In my tank that's a bit weird and I'm hoping you guys can help.

    Things Noticed: (note: past 3 days)

    1) Milky water (I know It's not from my sand bed being disturbed coz If I do disturb my sand bed then It clears up withing a half an hour)
    2) Darker, vivid change to coralline algae while some new growth of 1mm patches are bleaching
    3) 2 out of 3 Stylophora frags polyps are closed but the other one Is thriving and growing like mad
    4) Huge green hair algae bloom but It's dying out while new patches are growing at the same time (past 2 weeks [so weird])
    5) Protein skimmer skimming less yet I've added a clown fish and have been feeding It

    Changes to water chemistry: (Last week)

    1) Replaced my monthly active carbon
    2) Added some reef builder coz my alk was a bit low
    3) I did my 25% water change 2 weeks ago which should have been a week ago (I had some LRS).

    Parameters:

    1) NO3(mg/l) = 2
    2) NO2(mg/l) = 0.1 or 0.2 (so hard to tell)
    3) Ca(mg/l) = 430
    4) KH = 11dKH
    5) ph = 8.4
    6) Salinity = 1.025

    Oh! Sorry If this Is In the wrong section. I think It should have been In the detailed help request section.

    how long has the tank been cycling, what sort of filtration have you got going barring the skimmer?

    Which activated carbon are you using, and why are you using carbon?

    Oh yes! I forgot to mention that I've started carbon dosing. Now I know where the milky water Is coming from. Here Is my Log.....

    13/08/12 (Vodka)
    7am = 0.063ml
    7pm = 0.063ml

    14/08/12 (Vodka)
    7am = 0.063ml
    7pm = 0.063ml

    15/08/12 (Vodka)
    7am = 0.063ml

    I'm not measuring the Vodka myself, my fiance's brother is a pharmacist's assistant and he Is using accurate measuring equipment to measure the vodka for me.

    Your dosage of carbon is a bit high then.

    Dose once a day for the first while and then add a second dose if your nitrates and phosphates are still unacceptably high. Nitrate and phos levels determine how much you need to dose. The problem if you have a heavy bacteria bloom you will suffocate all your livestock.
