I have been testing my water parameters with 2 test kits that give readings in KH and meq/L

Now the KH reading has been reading in the region of 9, which is recommended.

The meq/L reading has always been 2, and although NSW is 2-3, it is recommended to have aquarium water at 4-6.

Also 1 meq/L corresponds to 2.8 KH, so theoretically I either have the following:

2 / 3.2 meq/L

or

9 / 5.6 KH

Does this indicate that the Tropic Marin Alkalinity test is just crap or do these two type of tesst always vary like this ?

Which kit are you using that is giving the meq/l?
Personally i trust the tropic marin kits but if you want a simple test for meq/l pm me.

i found Tropic Marine to be excellent.how old is the kit Warr?

8 months old.

I have also found Tropic a good test kit, but what I am not understanding is why the two test kits are so different.

The TM has not yet expired? The seachem? The TM has an expiry date printed on the tab you pull to open the box.

Are you using the correct dropper on the seachm kit? (The one with the long thin end)

I use the meq/l test kit, my tank sits at about 2.5meq/l as a constant.

Oh my word, I feel like a real dork. I was wondering why I had that dropper.

I will re-do the test tonight and post the results.
