leds for light

Basically one of those paint trays bought from builders for R40
Took my overflow pipe from Dt and let it run over my scrubber into the first chamber of the sump.
Hopefully it wil work

what is the power rating on those leds? I think they are 3W per panel of 3 lights.

this should work fine, you may however need to get the LED's closer to the tray.

RiaanP They are 3w per panel yes and there is 8 panels. Do you think I must put 8 more?
zippy thy are only about 20 cm high, but might be able to get them closer?

Thanks guys
Henkie thanks for the advice I'll do that asap
settings up a new system is fun

Even 10W LED spotlight would work better. Much lower Kelvin rating than the LEDS you used.

I would say as long as you have adequate water flow over it and good lightning it should work both ways.

that's about a weeks growth...
After I changed my lightning according to the advice given:thumbup:

You got the paint tray from builders where did you get the orange grid from?

That orange grit was like a BIG mistake....
It basically dissolved after about two week:(
I currently don't have any grid in so I only take a scissor and trim the algae down every ones in a while.
I have read that the guys like to use normal shade cloth and are happy with it

Maybe try and tilt the tray so that more water can flow over...

And you can always add shade cloth inside of the tray. That will help you grow even more algae.

I will definitely do the shade cloth...I actually stopped the return pump to get a better pig. My original angle was no good with to little water in the tray
after I changed the angle the whole tray fills up to max
much better
thanks for excellent advice
that's why the peace of lr is in there to keep it from tipping over ..lol

Just keep in mind that you don't want to "flood" the algae with water.

Only a thin layer of water needs to pass over the algae when using this kind of scrubber...

Maybe try and increase the angle even further and let gravity take over
