Can someone please confirm if this is Aiptasia. I have 2 shrimps (its a new tank). Will they sort out the Aiptasia or should I use chemicals?[IMG]

yep it is aptasia, what shrimps do you have? if its an isolated aptasia i would nuke it by smothering it with some kalk wasser or sticking some pratleys putty over it. if there are allot then i would take out what i could and allow the shrimps (assuming they have a taste for it and are peppermint shrimps) attach the stuff thats out of sight..

i just dropped a few drops of super glue on the aptasia and it killed it , i also used aptasia x, but found the super glue method worked very well, because it looks like it burns the little dudes

I squirted some lemon juice into it and it curled up. Then I covered it pratleys. There were 2 of them. Next I'll get pepermint shrimp. The tank is new, 5 weeks. Should I feed the shrimps or let then scavange?

    Get rid of it NOW!!!!!

This comes a close second to total tank loss, for making reefers give up this great hobby.

Take it from me....wish i had listen to the guru's when i started out and got my first aptasia and thought it wasa cool little fella. Now a year down the line and im seriosly considering shutting down my tank.

I found 2 x peppermint shrimps and put them in last night. This morning a large Aiptasia was gone. Success.

Dude, you so lucky... I have more aiptasia than all the peppermint shrimp on the entire planet can eat, and the two I got just does NOTHING... They have in fact started to just park their asses on a rock and wait untill I feed live brine nauplii...

I am having a foundoe this weekend, so I will let you know how peppermint shrimp in 1000 island sauce tastes...:tt2:

I'm proud to say that my peppermints are a win. They have just destroyed another big aiptasia and a bunch of small ones. I seldom see the shrimps. They hide during the day. I occasionally see one at night (no night light yet). I even worry that one may have died. I have not seen both together since I put them in. But they are a WIN.

Not sure about mine... They are there, I rarely see them, but I do see my aiptasia grow at alarming rates again...

How does one know whether or not your Peppermints are true peppermints? I have no idea whether or not mine is doing anything at all...

In my experience if u think they arent eating it, they definately ARENT!!!

Had 2 peppermints that worked before which i sold after my tank was cleared. They dont waste time so if u cant see a difference then they are not doing anything :(

Hi bought mine from LFS, who said they were young peppermints. They appeared to be all red. I expected to see fine white stripes but I couldn't. The big issue is I have less aiptasia.
