I've build one in like 5 min, i just used my laptop power supply. 4 aptasia's zapped and never seen again. Dead "tenticales" or what ever its called start drifting up pure white and dead with in a half second of zapping. Don't see any stress in the fish while I'm zapping. Only the amphipods run around and only while zapping.

    Works lekka!!!

    zap the shit 's

Will post a pic tommorow of mine..

Will post pics tommorow or tonight. Works like a charm. zapped one on Sunday right next to or rather touching a small feather worm that didn't come out for a week because of the aptasia in its way. Thought it was dead. 30min after the zapping out comes mister feather...

"There is something about zapping aptasia that calms me down...." :peroni:

Hey guys, I posted about this yesterday in Jaco's thread

Aiptasia Infestation counter measures - Marine Aquariums of South Africa

Here is the original RC thread where Paulb details the build etc
Electrocuting Mojanos - Reef Central Online Community

and here is an earlier thread on MASA.

Some important notes if you're DIY-ing it.
Don't use ordinary copper cable!! The water electrolyses it and you are effectively putting copper in your tank! Stainless steel for the tip and graphite for the other contact are the most practical long term solutions.

From what I've read it works on pretty much anything. Majano, aptasia, Xenia, button polyps, GSP etc etc etc. But rather than killing your excess xenia, gsp etc why not rather frag it out and give it away. Plenty of new reefers wanting the stuff I'm sure.

I cut the xenia to sell it then the stump just grows back. My back glass is half covered with the stuff and it's all over the rocks

Yeah then the zapper is ideal - you can just stab the base and zap it.

    @ Tony

The stainless steel point connects to the positive and the carbon (pencil lead) that is on the side of the shaft to the negative. I got a puch botton on the positive wire. So i get as close as posible to the target and switch the power on as soon as I touch the target. Bam!! zapped Aptasia gone. Hope it helps!

the pencil lead (carbon part) is that not too soft and will it not break off easily? Is their any other carbon base objects that is stronger that could be used?
