    Hi All,

Got a question RE: My Tank

The DSB, in retrospect, may be to small to be effective. (15cm*15cm*15cm)
    Your opinions?

Was thinking of just removing it and making that area a full on refugium?

    Thanks!

Do you have any problems with your tank relating to water quality? If not why change anything at this stage?
if you increase your bio-load at a later stage then you might look at something more effective

DSB needs to be at least 30% of the surface area of your DT and the depth must be at least 15cm deep to be effective. Right know it's supplying an area where extra aerobic bacteria are growing, but you'll find very little or no anaerobic bacteria growing there for the successful removal of nitrates. There are easier and quicker methods for removing the nutrients, like orca cubes.
Remember, a refuge is not only plants, but can also include a sand bed where many different worms and other organisms grow.
If you have space for cubes by your skimmer, then I would take on that option and leave your small refuge in, sand bed and all.

    Cool, thanks all.

Water quality is great so I think I'll leave it for now and look into adding something else like orca cubes down the road if required.

Or just upgrade the whole system, it seems so small lately, after seeing everyone else's tanks.
Got a 1.2m laying around, might make that the DT and make the whole current DT a DSB.

What is the size of your display?

    [IMG]OK, found your tank pic.

If you got a bigger sump laying around, yes, then use it.

Tank is barely 2 months old and the upgrade is under way.
    Have a 1.2cm x 45cm x 45cm tank.
Need to install a C2C overflow and dill holes and install some new euro bracing.

Then the current DT (90cm) will become the DSB/fuge. That should do the trick.
