Advice from the sump specialists.

I need some assistance please from all the pro's.
I want to build an external sump for my little 24g Nano cube.I want to create more water volume, add a skimmer,run a little DSB, and pump through a little chiller back to my little tank. I have a little cupboard next to the nano that I will utilize, but as always "space is the big problem. Attached is a rough sketch of what I am thinking of.(sorry but have not learnt the sketchup yet). Next to this little sump, I want to put the chiller.
I am thinking of Reeftek TS1 in first chamber.Does anyone know what the water level should be for it to operate in am optimal manner? Then it will overflow and run between the channels on top of DSB until it reaches the return compartment.From there I will pump to chiller on to my tank. What do you guys think?? Will it work??
How deep must my sandbed be? ie: 150mm 200mm? I will use playsand, and beg for a cup of "matured" sand from someone. Where should I keep my heater?
I just want to "jack" up my system, and get a better quality through my nano. I hope the pro's agree with what I am thinking. I await your response with great anticipation. Thanks in advance

Thanks Kanga. Yes, much better to actually see it in your drawing(well, now it's my drawing thanks) What do you think the height of the sump should be?(6mm glass). And how deep must the sandbed be to be effectice?? Water level above that?? Thanks again fot the trouble on the drawing.
 
Cant see why it wont work, DSB should be at least 10-12cm deep.
 
Thanks Alan. I was thinking of between 10 and 15 mm. Needed confirmation. Does it matter how high the water level is above the actual bed of sand? Would you want a slow moving or fast moving water without obviously disturbing the bed?

Yeah thats fine for height, make sure your water level is such that if the pump goes off, that the water that would siphon back has enough space in the sump.

My sump has about 20cm water flowing over the DSB if that helps

Flow should be about 10X the water volume per hour through the sump.

Only a pleasure, I must warn you though you did ask for the pros, the only thing I am pro at is drinking Peroni:1::lol:

Salty, I would add a small pump in the same chamber for the chiller. Maybe a king1 or so, the nice thing about having it there is that the over flow will regulate water level. In otherwords you wont run the of overfilling it or running it dry regardless whether the pump runs or not
