Adding of new fish to aquarium

should 1 add new fish before a water change or after
A any suggestions

the reason for my question is got a unexpected fish today
was gona do a water change now , so not sure wish is the better option ?
any help guys

yeah, @Newbiejb had the right answer.


Anyway I think after the water change. Then the fish can settle in, and not worry about this big looming thing up and down next to the tank the next 30 minutes.
