    Hi all

I know that this is wrong but i am getting the fish at a fantastic price from a lfs in my area this is what i have ordered

5 Anthias or 3 flame back pygmy angels
    10 green chromis
    3 fire gobies
    1 coral beauty
    5 red crabs
    5 algae eating snails

I know i should have added the fish slowly but i cannot afford to buy them from LFS as they are too expensive. The tank has cycled for 2 months already. What should i do when i get the fish to ensure maximum survival?

the place you are getting them from should hold some of them for you, adding all this at once is gonna hurt you down the line not to mention cause a huge spike. try the idea of the people you are getting this all from holding a few back for two weeks or so. you are seriously chancing your luck, if they all die in one go due to harsh water conditions then what? dont mean to be nasty, just expressing my concerns so i'm sorry if i sound as though i'm coming off harsh

That is nearly 20 fish all at once? I would not advice that, doesn't matter how long the tank has cycled. Your fish could die from an ammonia spike.

To be fair 20 small fish in a 2500litre system might be ok...

how big is your tank again?

point taken, what about some fellow reefers to temporarily hold them for you?
too small, my system is 1400L and even then i might only be only able to get away with ten. but i wouldnt advise it. try asking some nearby reefers, may be the safest bet

Add lots of Seachem stability to break down ammonia and nitrite, then do a water change every day!

Wait for the gurus to give you a good answer.

I think we should start taking bets on how many will survive. Sometime if you buy cheap you loose big time!

Ziyaad EVEN if you had all the bells 'n whistles, you DO KNOW it's wrong, fantastic price or not.

Your tank is only suited to about 65% of ALL you have listed, with room for other compatible species later.

SO WHY did you order more than tank capacity, even if cheap?

I can't see it being much less than about R2000, right!?
[Expect quarantined, 2-3 week settled retail value is about R2800]

If you lose any fish, add cost of LOSSES to "bargain".
You get closer to healthy, settled, adaptable stock price.
Factor in extra monitoring/test costs, saltwater changes, additives and probable medication - time and equipment - if you require them.

How do we reconcile a reply to this?

Below is 8week projection, WITH optimal conditions

    5 anthias
    5 chromis
1 coral Beauty and POSSIBLY 1 flameback
    3 firefish
    5 snails
and WHICH species hermit ( "red" sounds suspiciously like reefUNsafe spp.)

You ordered from a Kenya shipment, I see, hopefully lower transit makes for tough fish.

Use Seachem stability, First day 9caps(45ml), then 5caps(20ml) daily for rest of 7days.

DON'T do water changes, until END of 1 week, or you will dissipate NH3 needed to multiply biofilterbed capacity.

Feed late 2nd day after import, half amount every day, split into 2 feeds for about 7days.
Move up to 3/4 amount, split over 2-3 feeds for next 7days.
After 3 weeks should be able to use normal feed amount, split into 3-4 feeds a day.

HOW are you going to manage this with EXTRA required multiple feeds for anthias !?!?

I guess marines from Amazon pets (lfs?)

    Hi Liaquat.

The crabs are Dardanus species. so i take it i should lose 5 chromis and 2 flames. im not sure if the anthias are coming or the flames are coming yes kenya shipment. oh yes that list also does not gaurntee all fish so it may be less hmm must get the stabiloity

    Uhuh, yeah, ok....

Dardanus, are tough, low maintenance, NOT reefsafe, and predatory especially towards your snails and later more adventurous in it's menu choices.:p

    Oh, you have enough
space ...but it doesn't translate to "territory", health, interference free grazing behaviour and compatibility.

Centropyge acanthops are peaceable, and can become quite aggro, at best of times, BUT do occur in family groupings. having 3 is a bomb with unknown time fuse before detonation.

I have already kept >10 in 600L for over a year to attempt/enact spawning behaviour. Which I did , but moved onto other projects. :nono:

ADD Coral Beauty and bomb metaphor becomes apparent.

A Tank of your size, is also likely to not host 10 chromis without
    hierarchical squabbles diminishing their numbers.

Eish What a mess. Ok seems like there will be a sale for a few chromis and flameback angels in the coming weeks not to mention Dardanus. so with your list above i should be fine?

It appears that you already have the answer to your question. The best advice that you can follow is what you use as your signature.
