    Howzit,

    Jus wondering,
When you do the whole mixing the salt and ro thing...
they speak about quality of salt, better quality having better or more minerals n stuff...

    My Question:
What additives can one get at the chemist to increase quality of the water in a marine tank.
seeing that the nutrients n minerals get used up by the live stock n filtration systems...

    Hi Gareth.

I think thats why water changes are essential, it replaces used up nutrients and or elements. However there are additives one can use I suppose but I would not know what, I am still learning.

We will see what the professionals have to say.

    Jaco.

ja, i get the water changes, im not looking for a way around the water changes, jus what to use to improve quality...
for example corals n inverts require calcium , so we add more...
what are the other lil bits n pieces that can be added to benifit other types of creatures?

imo i wouldnt refer to the chemist just yet as a noob, rather stick to the Branded products as one could easily make a quick misjudgmnt with chemist products and kill ur tank

All salt brands come with the right amount of additives, you cant really increase the quality of the salt.

We dose calcium, alkalinity supplement and others(depending on what corals you are keeping and filtration you are running - an Algal Turf Scrubber removes alot of nutrients like magnesium and iodine so you have to replace those)

However, the golden rule is DONT DOSE WHAT YOU CANT TEST FOR

Hope that answers your question ;)

Potassium, Strontium, Iodine, Amino Acids........... There are actually quite a few. Some which are in the salts, we dont even test for.
