    Hey guys,

    Going back to T5's. I'll be going 8x 80w and I'm looking to go Ati. Can you guys please recommend which Ati bulbs to get and in what order they should be placed?

    Thanks

    Im also thinking of going full T5's or just adding more T5's. I noticed my ice cap acro has nice purple growth tips towards the T5's and nothing on the side facing the MH's

    @rakabos

    Your system is part of the reason I'm going T5's. Really love the colouring in your tank. ;)

    I was going to go gieseman as-well but read that ATI's are just as good at a cheaper price, hope its true.

    Is this your front to back?

    "BACK

    @Tremayn

    I'm actually coming from LED. I'm of the opinion that my light is just too intense. Took months for my BTA to acclimatize and I've noticed that the soft corals in the shaded parts of my tank grow 10 times better than the ones in direct light.

    Also, LED's take away the ability to experiment with other light variations like adding a bit of purple or red, unless you've installed them on day one.

    Why not make a hybrid of led and T5?

    The LEDS are so intense they'll muffle out the effects of a few purple t5's, if I remove one of the led fixtures I'll get spotlight beams. And like I said, I'd like to scale down on intensity a bit.

    Going to Dorry's tomorrow to pick up the T5's. Will take some before and after pics to compare.

    Got a few SPS pieces but nothing that won't grow under 8 x 80W's. What T5's are you planning to add to your setup?

    @pXius just some cheap stuff, I saw that you can get radiant lighting T5 unit with a white globe (not sure on the colour) for about R150each but it doesnt have a reflector. Works out cheaper than buying a unit. Ill just add 2 T5's for now, if I have the room Ill add another 2 more as room for lighting is tight as I have 4 T5's and 4 mh's.

    Will worry about the tubes later but Ill be adding some osrams and the rest will be ATI as they wont cause you to sell your kidneys like giesmann and apparently the ati tubes last pretty long. I know a good reefer who had them running for about 2years, he said he would just test the par and if it dropped he would change the globes

    I see what you did there :p haha .. Another reason if you run Ati, then you dont have to worry about spelling giesEmann wrong :lol:

    Middays are hectically yellow. Taking them back to Lifestyle, hoping they'll swap them out, only used them for a sec. Looks like someone took a wee in my tank.

    Going to replace them with 2 Aquablue+'s.

    That'll give me.

    Yep i didnt get middays. They are horrid. The aquablue tube is actually white. So them + actinic work nicely on the eye

    I dont know why everyone says ATi is so much cheaper. I just paid R241 for a 24W tube and the equivalent Giesemann is R256. A wopping R15 difference. And the difference is pretty much the same for all the other globes as well.

    Its all about personal preference. They are both great tubes.

    Welcome to the forum....

    Energy Saving: My leds used 480W total, the T5 setup will draw 640
    Less Heat: I had no real heat issues with the LEDS, not expecting too much with the T5's. At most I'll add some PC fans to the sump come summer.
    Coverage: Coverage will be the same.
    Intensity: The T5 intensity will be much less than the LEDS. Which was my goal.

    Should see the effects on my mushrooms within a day or 2. Zoas are already extending a bit more. Just hope my nennie will stay put. Most of my SPS are high up in the tank so should be fine.
