    Hi

Just starting a new reef tank 1500*750*750 after being out the game for 7years.I still have about 10KG of live rock (now dead) that I stored outside....can i mix this with the new live rock or will it leach contaminants .....Plan to soak it in RO water.

I used to have a 300 L tank but gave up 7 years ago .Just got bitten by the bug again and decided to do it properly this time around.

    Tank size 1500*750*750
    Sump 1100*600*450
    Refugium 300*600*400
Tank centre overflow ( all round viewing)
Return pump 10000 L (closed loop)
    2 Seio Props 6000 L
    2 Seio M1100 4400 L
    2 Metal halide 250 W 20000K
    2 Actinic T5
    2 10000K daylight T5
Protien Skimmer Aqua Excel rated 1500 L

    Hi Wade,

    and WELCOME to MASA
It will work fine, IF it has not become contaminated with dust, aerosol sprays, ant poison, etc... during the 7 years that it was stored. Personally, if there is even a remote chance of it having become contaminated then I would not use it. Something else to consider - 7 years ago it was quite common to use copper-based medicines in marine tanks. If you have EVER used any copper-based medicines in your old tank then do not use this rock if you are planning on setting up a reef tank with invertebrates, as the copper normally accumulates in the rock and can be released back into the water (and it is deadly to inverts...)

Thats alot of dead live rock you have. I would jet spary each rock and clean it, than once dry you can add in the tank with the other live rock. I have added some 4 years old dead live rock to my reef tank with no illl effecs, still have another 50kg dead live rock going to add to my new grag project. Just to be sure you can do a copper test once the tank is running.

    Welcome to Masa.
I think your return pump is a bit too strong.
I don't understand, you said your return pump will be closed loop? It can't be as the water is gravity fed over the overflow. A closed loop system is an alternative to flow pumps in the display, nothing to do with the return pump. You also mentioned Seio's, or you gonna have a CLS and the flow pumps in the display?

    Hello and Welcome.

No need for a monster return pump. It is heavier on energy than internal pumps. Rather use a smaller and better sized return pump.
Unless you want to run other equiptment from that same pump. I do it, I run my phosphate reactor, refugium and cryptic tank, plus my return from my one return pump.

Where in the world is Wally, I mean Wade? No harm in letting others know where you find yourself.
