6x54w or 8x39w t5 unit????

    Which wou be more suitable over a 120cm x 60cm x 45 cm sps dominant reef?

    I use 2 run 2 x quad T5 units 54w over mine...

    im running 8 x 54w over a 1.5 x .800 x ,650 and its working fine with LPS and sps (montis) placed near the top...

    I would go with the 6x54w seeing as your tank is only 450mm wide.

    what is the spacing of the lights within the unit? remember your scaping is where your corals will be placed on so as long as this area is well illuminated you will be fine.. you do not have to blind the entire tank with light,, use the lower lit areas for corals that are not as demanding.. such as mushrooms or plating montipora...

    I'm think of building my own unit so I will be able to turn on or off any 2 bulls at a time so all the bulbs will probably be running for 1-2 hours max a day

    I was think more of an even spread for the bulbs so I can keep sps anywhere in the tank and just adjust the other corals and/or make various shady areas

    Only need a six by 39 watt for that size tank
