    Hi Sara,

    ive been a keen fresh water enthusiast for some years now. although i keep contemplating on getting a Marine tank.

    So i have decided i would like to convert my 615L / 135g Tank to a Marine one.
    I have googled endlessly and everyone seems to be doing different setups regardless of size. Done have any Marine stores where i am from as well.

    Please if you may assist me on this what would i need to start up i.e: products, Skimmer (type/size?), Sump, type of rock/coral/sand. Process of introducing livestock as well as the rocks etc...

    Your help would be highly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi and welcome @888 to masa a forum with endless knowledge i am also in Swaziland and have had my tank running for a year now would be nice to meet up and chat about what exactly you looking for. there are 4 of us that meet on a regular basis..

    1. there are many ways about starting off a marine tank and the best way is to take it slowly or else you end up spending to much money on products that are inefficient and need to be upgraded at a later stage..

    Main thing you will need a skimmer that is rated for a little bigger water volume that your tank and sump combined Say 1000 liters just to be safe in case you end up adding to many fish and you have a heavy bio-load(to much Pollutants in the tank). then you are going to need wave makers and possibly a chiller to keep the water cooler a stable temp is better and its just to hot here in SD

    Then the rock is the next step maybe start with base rock(rock that is dead- no life on it because it does not come with the nasty thing that you sometimes get with live rock..

    you will have to cycle the tank for a while to make sure the bacteria in the tank are enough to consume the amonia nitrites and nitrates that are part of the nitrogen cycle( i had only salt water live rock for 1 month before i added fish)

    sorry for the long reply but just thought i would try and explain the whole setup

    we also make orders so when we go to South Africa we buy all the necessary things( Salt food Pumps Anything needed) helps a lot to all contribute

    @RiaanP
    thanks a mil!!!

    @Fraser W
    Thank you for the reply much appreciated, i felt relief as soon as i heard you from SWD.

    So last night i was online and managed to find a tank selling for 7500, comes with the whole setup sump/proteing skimmer etc; was thinking perhaps its easier just to go with a full setup like that?

    Perhaps we could meet up and you could walk me through the whole process?

    ya we can meet up and maybe you should come and have s look at the various tanks we have just to see what you are going to need and to get familiar with what the equipment looks like always better to see something in action than to read about it... I am in manzini and ill pm you my number so we can organise a meet sometime
