Didn't use a driver, just a resistor to a transformer switched to 9v

High powered led, 5Watt, 3.3v, blue
Supposed to use a driver circuit but works like a normal led with a resistor.
Dont know the light strength tho
Cost sixty something for the led an about R10 for the resistor to run it off a 12v power supply. A place 10km from Vaal mall called Rabtron Electronics

Just take care. Most high powered led's aren't made to be run without a heatsink, and get damaged by high temperatures.

I have bought the 3w chinese make led's from rabtron for my first test. They where quite dim compared to the cree 3w's.

If you build a big light fixture I recommend the cree's. They would cost you about the same ($7 for the xp-g led = R49).

I duno, Im no lighting expert, just thought i would give em a try and im quite happy with the "look"

Just take care. Most high powered led's aren't made to be run without a heatsink, and get damaged by high temperatures.
I noted after my first test that the LED ran really hot, and so decided when I build them into my canopy im gona have to use heat sinks

They had the 1W, 3W @ about R4?.00 and 5W @ R6?.00 High Powered LEDs, I decided to try the 5W and I must tell you, I'm not disappointed....
