Hi all, I'm wanting to purchase some lighting for my 5ft tank that I'm setting up and I just want to ask a simple question...

Should i go for a 5ft light unit or should I go for a 4ft unit as the lighting "spreads" at the sides?

It's also a good R1500 less so I'm kinda wondering... thanks!

That will be fine in my opinion. If the light spread is not reaching the very end of the sides, then just don't put light hungry corals on the far ends :)

    Thanks Tobes...

This is what I'm planning on getting :

    120cm (4ft) (2xMH 250W +4 x54W) Reef Octopus MH, T5 combo

    either that or

    150cm (5ft) (3xMH 250W +4 x54W) Reef Octopus MH, T5 combo

    but yeh, it's there's a good R1500 difference.

If it was me, I'd get the 4ft. I know a lot of guys that uses a 4ft light on 5ft tank. A 2ft light on a 3ft tank, etc

My lights are 15cm from the surface of the water. My T5's and 150w MH's... Play with the height but dont make it too close to the water as a splash can break the glass on a MH.. so not closer than 10cm.. The higher up the lights the more spread but less intense
