    Hi guys

3 of my LPS's have died in the last month

firstly about 1 month ago my whole elegance just disappeared in like less than two days after looking very good for 2 months

then one of my hammers with 3 heads died first one head about 2 weeks ago and then on Saturday the last two went at the same time... i actually saw them peeling out...

now this morning one head on a three head torch has withered away...

    everything else is looking good

    here are my test results

    Ammonia <0.25 mg/L
    pH 8.2
    Nitrite 0ppm
    Nitrate 0ppm
    Hardness 8.3 dKH
    phosphat 0.5 mg/l
    magnesium 1280 ppm
    Salinity 1.024
    iodine 0.03 ppm
    calcium 450 ppm
    Alkalinity 2.97 meq/L
    temp 25-26C

no drastic changes other than a big water change 1.5 weeks ago (50%)
and then last week i added two long tentacle plates

i had a similar problem with two frogspawn. There is a possibilty that it could have a bacteria infection that it may have gotten during packaging. Unfortunately is seems to late as you could have cut the dying heads away and try to save the one that is alive.

erle, I had a similar thing, where a lot of my LPS suddenly was sulking, showed signes of damage and death. It took me a while to figure out that my beautiful Ebli Angel were destroying them.

Bacteria etc is a very real possibility, but think about your inmates also.

    my 2c

    Ciao

Ask Marco for the Coral RX. If he has not got he should be able to get it for you. Same importer as reef octopus.

    Iodine dip is also ok.

    i got redsea iodine...
can i use that? if so how would i go about it?

i should be going to marco anyway tomorrow so i will see what he has and what advice he can give.

Is there any way to autopsy that can be done on the dead coral?

i doubt it... none of my fish are chowers.. never seen them at it... yet... i do stare a lot...

i had a brain that died of RTN (my own diagnosis, after reading about it) about 2.5 months ago...

could there be leftovers of that?

Any sign of a brown jelly like substance on them?

Are you sure your NO3 (nitrate) reading is zero, find it hard to believe that is it zero and you have a PO4 of 0.5?

Try to increase your I2 (Iodine) to 0.06

A large water change could have shock them, depending on what the parameters where before you did it?

ASAIK not all Cowries are reef safe, some eat corals.

i'll try get a pic, the one had brown stuff after it died... not like the brain that had it before... BTW when i saw what the brain had, it went into quarantine where i tried to save it... but it died when i had to go to work and my missus couldn't give it the attention that i was.

I will test both again and see what they say.

i got like 2 or 3x ring cowries...
    are they ok?

    @lIghty

    retested....
NO3 still absolute zero... (salifert test kit, white as a sheet)
PO4 if is between 0.5-1.0 but closer to 0.5 (tropic marine, comparing the two test tubes)
