So I decided to keep my chiller outside, needed more clear tubing so went out and bought 14 metres.I smelt the chemical as the guy handed it over to me,and asked if it would harm my livestock, the guy replied it would be fine.Anyway,I hav'nt used it yet.Anyone experienced this before, let me know the outcome.I did not purchase the 20mm clear tubing from a petshop as all are out of stock. It appears the company that normally supplies petshops went down under. Thanks

Im sure it will be fine - maybe soak it in r.o water with vinegar to clean it!

Clear tubing is usually vinyl/PVC. I think (but don't know) that it's the plasticizer that makes it smell. Old tubes seem to smell less, but be less flexible.

I've used a lot of it, it's probably okay. Some times when it's really hot and the smell is very apparent, I let the water run through it for a couple of seconds before using the water.

If the water runs through it 24/7, this may be less of a problem.

Hello aslam, clear tubing always smell like that... doesn't matter where you buy it.
its ok to use it like that, but if it bother you alot, take 10l of r/o water and add a cup of vineger to it; and bobs your uncle... But its really fine to use it as is.

Run activated carbon in the system for a few days, will remove any dissolved volatiles from the tubing.
