You happy with the lights? More specifically that they penetrate to the substrate @ 1m??

Fair point. The ATI 8x80w is ok but not enough. I am looking to add two LED Light bars to it - any advice or thoughts would be appreciated ;)

I reckon your best bet is to look at something more like a Kessil. They more spotlight orientated and works extremely well for punching light down to 1m+.

Funny you say that...was looking at Kess the other day but I’m not sure how you add them to the ATI and should I take the ATI down I will need like 6 of them to cover the tank

No, leave the ATI pendant. Ive seen some of the best reef tanks in the world do the following:
leave the ATI pendant and add the 2-3 Kessils either in front or at the back (i suggest front) at an small angle.

Ok great - that could work. I suppose I have to figure out how best to fit them but agree, that would be stunning!!

I don't think kessils are going to give you anything more you ain't already got except some led pop.
That 8x80W sunpower unit u have is no par slug - at 200-250mm above w/l you'll find 1000 par by the surface. The t5 powermodules have a little differant shaped reflector that tightens up the angle & gives marginally higher par but i think it was only around 10% or so more. The hybrid powermodules with the led maybe some more but i'm not sure. Mo's reef in the UK he went from 400w radiums + t5 mix to hybrid led/t5 powermodules & seemed pretty happy & thats a 3ft deep tank.

@2una - if I understand you correctly, you saying the the ATI unit is sufficient? :)
If so, then I am back to the original plan of just adding some LED Bars for the additional color?

Its sufficent but with your bit deeper tank you may well be getting low par down deep but that's fine for softies etc just don't expect to colour up acro's on the sand.
I have g4 radions here & par with them & the 8x80w sunpower isn't much differant.
If your looking for just adding some led pop here's some of my thoughts:
Reefbrites - yeah but they aren't powerful(just a strip of 3w led's) so they aren't going to do anything other than just help look,Expensive for just that with no alteration of spectrum at all. They would fit on well & not look out of place tho.
Kessils - gooseneck mount onto the sunpower? - not too pretty, 3 x kessils going to be how much? 3 x 4k + probably, maybe more ?? R12000...think i'd just put that money toward a t5/led powermodule rather. Plus they have no SA support.I've had a 2nd hand one i've brought before & the fan went & i couldn't buy a new fan from kessil, their reply was buy a new light.
    Radions - strapped on - once again - x 3 = $$$$ - money i would rather spend just going to a led/t5 powermodule.

Just saying think about it a bunch & look at what your going to spend vrs what your going to get & maybe it might be better just to eat the powermodule cost & add the pop that way & get a bit more par for the deeper tank to boot.

Have a seneye par meter here your welcome to have a borrow of if you want to look things over.

@2una - you have given me so much to suss on. I like the T5 power module idea but know little about it, so will have to research some.

Thanks a stack for the time and info! Very much appreciated!

these are absolutely awsome. wouldnt mind getting them for myself. you can buy them directly from the Orphek site. I've mailed them end last year. they ship the lights all over the world.
