Hey guys, so I have installed my canopy hosting 3x 150watt MH's.... Somehow it does not seem bright enough, the canopys incomplete for I have to still install 4x 90cm T5 ho dual units.height is @ ±40cm.... I feel the need to drop it lower for more effectiveness, though I neace to work in the tank as the canopy is not easy moveable due to mounting methods cause of weight...... Ideas guys, or even personal experiences woild be gladly appreciated for I'm new to the MH game:blush:

Hmmm I would say its a bit high, just looking at the pic. I would go like 10cm-20cm above the water surface...remember if its 40cm from the top of the tank and your tank is 600mm deep...you looking at 1 meter from lights to bottom of tank....bit far specially for only 150w MH.

    Hey JS,

I have a 70cm deep tank with 3150W MH's. the lights sit about 20-30cm off of the top of the water and I have decent light (although 250W would be better on my tank too). My hood however is on pulleys so its easy to use. 250W however would have been ideal. However, on mine I run 20k Kelvin bulbs (quite blue) so need to supplement with T5's. You will see how beautiful the tank will look once you add 2 x 10000k T5's

try the T5's and see what it looks like. If you're still not satisfied then I'm afraid you will have to for 250W

@Kunhart.... Valid point there , hence my reason to wana drop it lower, tho I wnt have sps low down, more on the tops, but T5s won't reach wen its mounted on caopy aswell?

Do you have a chiller Js? the main reason for me getting a chiller was for exactly the reason of putting my MHs close the surface of the water. They really get warm!

@jaybeepee... No I dnt but MHs not going to run for long, besides with winter on our doorsteps, it gives me a chance to saveup for decent chiller

20K blv globes are a nice crisp colour. Not blue at all. I even supplement mine with 2 54W pure actinics.

Yip agree with Marius, I have my 20k MH's with 2 blue and 2 pink T5's and my tank still doesnt have an over abundance of blue colouring to it. :)

If you got the cash to spend definately get 2 AquaPink Giesemann tubes they are awesome and really make the colours of your fish and corals stand out a LOT more. Definately worth paying three times the amount of Reefteks :p
