Hi everyone, I have a chance to purchase the following led unit and just wanted to know what is a good price for it, it should be in the region of R2000, will this be a good price or a bit much?

    Here are some specs :

    120w - 55 x 3w epistar led chips,
    26 x royal blue(455nm)
    26 x white (14000k - 20000k)
    3 x moonlights

Blue and white channels independently dimmable.
Digital timer with 3 on and off times, moonlight on/off.
    Hanging kit also included.

Tricky. It looks like a very nicely put together unit. Is there not more info on the net about it? Would also be nice to see it over a tank. What area does it cover.

Agree it does look like a decent unit for the price, any idea on the lenses/optics?

for 2K its a steal... i've seen those units on the net mostly on Alibaba. i gotta say the Chinese manufacturers are getting better and better.. now only question is what area does it cover but for me as long as it can cover about 60 x 60 its a good price

Thanks for the feedback, Im not sure what area it cover but from what I can see its not bad. They say I can choose the optics from 60deg -120deg, but they say from feedback they got most people prefer 120deg, what would be best for a 60x60 tank? Yip the cost of the brand lights is quite high  but from what I see the this unit is not bad.

Not a bad deal for R2k, its entry level but I have no doubt it will work, but I would research more if you plan to keep sps, if you sure it lands for R2k the go for it. Our LEDs start at R3k. These are not Cree LEDs, but there are guys using epistar and bridgelux with success.

My fascination with with LED just wont seem to stop lol, my 60cm cube is up and running and I updated my diy LED but it just not cutting it for me, saw this light on a local site, looks like the site is still being built but they have this led light for sale, looks a bit pricey but the specs looks good

108w Cree led aquarium light | LED Hub

    • 108w, 36 pcs CREE XPE LED
    • 14000K white , 460nm blue 1:1 ratio
    • 60 / 90 / 120 degree lens options
    • Sunrise and Sunset simulation.
    • DC 24V / 600ma
    • Single fan for quiet and cool operation.
    • Hanging and mounting kits included.
    • 3 Year warranty
    • Free delivery
It goes for R5500, I think you can get much better deals at some of the sponsors.

Hi @pom, I don't like commenting on these threads but it popped into my notifications, when I see something strange it's best to highlight it.

    36 X 3w does equal 108w

But drop 24v over 36 leds and multiply the 0.6A gives you 0.4watts per led? Something does not add up.

I might be wrong but from experience 24v is a very low driver for that many leds

If you are willing to spend 5k there are better options than this unit.

I will assume they are using two drivers, but at 600ma that still low!

    Hey @pom
I have a very similar 120w unit over my tl550. Mine has 90 degree lenses and the coverage is great. The tl550 is roughly 500x400 so 600x600 shouldnt be a problem.
I keep anything from zoas to sps to clams without hassle and have great growth and colour on my sps.
Worked out to R1900 landed here. They are decent units for the price.
Granted, there are better units out there, but you also pay a lot more.
Its not always a case of cheap equipment is rubbish. Look at the Jebao wp range of pumps for example.
