Been battling with gha for some time. Even though the solution seems very simple (reducing phosphates), executing it may not be THAT simple. Tank has been running for 4 years - mainly SPS corals. Added a frag tank recently, plumbed to the main sump.
Main tank 650L - frag tank 250L = 900L total...
As with most fellow reefers, I love to frequent LFS for that eluding 'special' something. Week in and week out LFS's land various shipments - sometimes 3-4 shipments per week. Come Monday/ Tuesday, the bulk of that stock is gone. For the life of me I cannot understand how this is possible...
Current tangs are fairly large. I don't believe that's a calculated risk then - more like russian roulette. Not willing to take that chance. I value my corals (and fish) way too much.
Any whitecheek tang experiences/ suggestions? I assume they will be much the same as the powder brown - but...
1500 x 750 x 750. So far the naso, regal and blue tang are quite happy - been in my system for more than two years (except naso - introduced him still small about 9 months ago - has since doubled in size). You don't often see the powder browns or whitecheeks in aquariums - hence my interest in...
believe there is room for one more tang in my tank. Really looking at adding one of these. They truly beautiful fish. Yes, both might be prone to ick and other diseases, but believe a healthy specimen can be obtained. Currently have blue, naso and hippo tang in my 750L tank. I do believe the...
got around doing the maintenance yesterday - what a breeze - thanks to Riaan's post. Takes less than a minute to access the fan (to either clean properly OR replace). Don't really see the need to take everything apart. Removing the front panel allows you access and remove the fan. Fan has...
might be a good idea to order spare fans as backup just in case - these things pack up normally when you least expect it. Don't want that happening over a weekend with the supplier having to put your stuff on backorder for a few weeks.......
RiaanP do you think "upgrading" the fan is...
Definitely a case of dirt collection over time - normally don't hear them - sure it's affecting performance as well. Believe it's time to clean them properly.
Just wanted to know if there's an easy way doing this - will follow RiaanP's procedure and see how it goes. Thanks for all the input.
already tried the blow trick - not entirely successful. will probably need to disassemble and clean properly with toothbrush or something.
Thanks RiaanP - awesome thread!
anyone done maintenance on the Ecotech Radions before? I have the G3's - getting a bit noisy. Fans in desparate need of a clean-up. Is there an easy way of doing this OR do I have to disassemble the unit?
Units already passed their warranty period. Definitely very cautious - these things cost an...
thank you Adrian - need this type of info to make proper decisions. I suppose you can risk running the probe temporary to extent it's lifespan. Would the pH vary much? My understanding is that once you dial in the reactor, you don't touch it until it's time for a media change??? Probably can get...
