    Student Wanted for tank maintenance

Hi All, So it is looking VERY likely that I will be going to the UK for 6 weeks to do some contract work at Twinings. I am looking to hire a student, school or varsity, to check on my nano tank twice a week while I am away to ensure that my wife doesn't kill everything. Effectively a...

    Nano Water Parameters

So I finally started using RO water in my tank  Also, I also got round to installing two 15w flourecent tubes (one white and the other blue) above the aquarium - although my wife is moaning that I have put the transformers in the glasses cupboard :) The tank is doing much better now...

    1600mm x 1600mm corner tank

I am going to build a custom pendants to provide light to the tank - the pendant will use various sized globes to replicate the tank shape as much as possible. Not a bad idea chatting to a tank builder. I have requested some quotes, so will chat to them when I get feedback. I may just get...

    1600mm x 1600mm corner tank

Below is the plan I used for the cost estimate. I also added a great deal of fat when requesting the quote. I need to finalise the bracing, and overflow. The biggest issue is the size of the tank. Even though I am 6ft4, there is no way I can reach everywhere in the tank without some custom...

    1600mm x 1600mm corner tank

Hi All, I just got a quotation from NatGlass with regards to a 1600mm x 1600mm x 650mm corner tank I plan on building - it's taking me time, I know. All 12mm (two pane base) glass cut to size, polished and delivered - R4900 (incl). That is for 275kgs of glass (my friends are gonna hate me...

    Nano Water Parameters

The salinity is 1.025 - 1.026 (it is with a floating type hydrometer, I know I need to get a glass one). I used to use tap water, but am now using RO water from exotic pets. My tank has a glass lid, so i try not to replace evaporated water as I replace 8litres of water a week. I think based...

    Nano Water Parameters

I have a normal heater with a glass thermometer to verify what the heater is saying. The temp is constantly 25 - 26 as I use the "drip meathod" to get water back into the tank when I do a water change (funnily enough it never occured to me that I should acclimatize livestock in this manner).

    Nano Water Parameters

About an hour or so. I'm going to get more live rock, get my water tested, wait a while and then give the drip method a go. Thanks for the input.

    Nano Water Parameters

Well, slowly. Leave the bag floating around for a while, then let some water in slowly, slowly. Then generally I let the water out into a bucket and capture the creature in a net so as not to get any LFS water into my tank. The inverts last about a week before they die.

    Tank moving

I have moved my tanks many times, my nano marine tank is on a granite top and I just push and pull as necessary :) The trick is to move the tank one go in a fluid motion. I would suggest emptying the tank out as much as is feasable and try to slip some cardboard or something under the cabinet...

    Live Rock for a Nano

Hi Guys I am looking for 2 - 3 pieces of live rock that can be stacked - I have an awesome peice that is begging to have a leather or something put into it but I need to raise it a bit (The one on the left below - the picture is old, I need to update it) Ideally they would be flat and...

    50 Litre Nano Tank

Hmmm, was looking at the old pictures - it looks sterile compared to what it looks like now. Perhaps I should post more pictures tonight...

    50 Litre Nano Tank

It's not the greatest skimmer, but for R100 I cannot complain and my water quality problems (My Nitrates are a little high) are because I need more live rock. I set mine up as follows and get nice dark that needs cleaning every few days; Leave the sponge in the outlet - this needs to be cleaned...

    Nano Water Parameters

The Red Sea kit doesn't give a true value - I'll have to try with a different kit. Would it be adequate to cross check with one of those "quick" test kits?

    Which Salt ???

I know, I need to go buy a container or something. Went looking yesterday and couldn't find what I wanted :(

    Which Salt ???

I'm new to this, but my water parameters seem fine with Tetra - PH is spot on at 8.4ppm and Alkilinity is a little higher than it should be but still acceptable (Red Sea test kit). The calcium is low though (Red Sea Pro Kit). I'm currently mixing with tap water and chlorine remover. I am going...

    Tropical to marine tank

Hi, I have just done the same conversion with a slightly smaller tank (50 litres) I have two aqua h20 hangon filters, the one is running phosphate remover and the other is running carbon and ammonia remover, I have a small 200l/h internal pump next to the outflow of these two filters to...

    50 Litre Nano Tank

The system us actually very lowtech, I want the live rock to do everything for me. You are probably looking at the outlet from the skimmer. I don't have an overflow, just two hang on filters that contain fluval phosphate removal and zeocarb. My water parameters are just about perfect, my...
