[FS] Reeftek BH1000 Hang On Back Skimmer

Hi all I have just shut down my tank due to moving towns, and have this skimmer left. Asking R1200 and you ship at your cost from East London. I'll obviously give it a thorough cleaning this weekend - was running until 3 hours ago - skims beautifully.

    Newly setup nano reef

Hi and welcome - just one question... did you check your salinity with a refractometer or with one of those plastic jobs like I have? They are notoriously unreliable. Perhaps double check salinity with your lfs using a refractometer to be sure.

    MASA Changing

Yup you will if you had saved a link on your favorites bar and used that to go straight to the forums. The old software is still there. Delete that link from your favorites and make a new one from the right place. Problem solved.

Sump - Water splashing out and Light always has salt on it

It should have come with a round sponge which is designed to catch and break those bubbles. It should be fitted to the outlet pipe above the bowl the pipe empties into

    Cycling questions

Nah some should survive. But it is true that some systems are too sterile and need to be seeded with things like copepods etc. But that's why you add a bit of live rock to get things kicked off

Those sound like tube worms living in your rock. Nothing to stress about. If you are really worried about your livestock, you could do what someone else suggested and use stability to minimise the cycle. I personally would have let things run their course naturally, to end up with a perfectly...

    Clown tang rapid breathing

Sounds to me like he was very stressed out, and the copper in the qt added to that - just keep an eye on him and hopefully he recovers fully.

Check out this thread - seems there are pros and cons choosing between the two - I would stick with the smaller one, which should handle ammonia and nitrites better than the pond one as described... Matrix vs. Pond Matrix

    Cycling questions

I put my purigen in a little filter bag as well, but Ive been told some like to have it in a reactor. reckon as long as you place it in the sump, where there is flow, you should be fine. I would stick with the smaller matrix - its not about size, its more about surface area, and the matrix has...

    Cycling questions

Hmm - inverts really dont like ammonia - Im sorry to say it will likely not survive the cycle - consider removing it and placing in a friends tank until the cycle is complete. They eat detritus and so on, so the little bit of flake you feed your tank while it's empty will give it food. I have...

    Cycling questions

Instead of extra live rock for your sump - look at Seachem Matrix. Does the same job, but much more effective, kilo for kilo. If you put 1 litre of Matrix stones in your sump, it will be roughly equivalent to 25-30kg of good quality of live rock in terms of bio filtration...

    Cycling questions

Noooo - dont add ammonia to the tank. You have the time to work with, so let it do it's thing completely naturally. This will result in a stronger bio filtration system further down the line. With regard to the prawn or shrimp - either will do, the cycle just needs something rotting to...

Oh - and with regard to your holiday - if there's no livestock and you're away for ten days or less, I think you'll be fine without the tank being fed.
