Seachem Phytoplankton or Zooplankton

Good Day all

I am new to marine aquariums and still busy with my research and all that.

So i would like to hear everyones opinion regarding Seachem Phytoplankton and Zooplankton. Now this is to basically feed coral am i right?

I would like to find out which one is better and is it possible to use both of those products in your tank?

Is that the only products i can use or do i still need to add calcium to the tank even if using the above products?

Hi there. This is what I know.
I have used both products without issue. I use it once or twice a week.

You will have to test for calcium and add is needed.
 
@r0ckf1re Cool thanks. Busy working out all the things i need to buy to start up my tank so will just add these 2 products to the list.
What products do you use for calcium and do you use any other products for your coral? Is it just calcium i need or is there other things i need?

I don't dose anything. I just do water changes.

I'm not a good example as I don't test my water for anything apart from salinity.

I keep that at 1025, keep my Temps at 26 and only use RO water with max tds of 3.

People have various methods to run their tanks, it depends on what you want to achieve as well.

I don't get massive growth but everything looks healthy.

I feed invertebrate food once a week or so.

I feed frozen food daily, I know people don't do that as well.

Once you up and running you will learn what's works best for you.

I don't think calcium is the only thing you need to monitor. Water chemistry is important, I'm still learning about that.

@r0ckf1re Haha ok cool, well if all is healthy then thats good. I basically also want to keep a healthy tank, excessive growth isnt my main goal. Yeah apart from calcium i have heard that you need to maintain alkalinity levels as well as magnesium levels for coral. The invertebrate food, is that food for your coral?

You can get the invertebrate food in frozen cubes from most marine pet shops. It's indeed for the coral, probably also eaten by other tank mates

Ah interesting, cool thanks for all the information. It is quite expensive to start up a marine tank from scratch, especially when buying everything new. So far i have the empty tank, so still need to get a stand and everything else haha so yeah everything adds up. But i would rather do everything properly and try have my first marine tank a success.

Good approach. Just take ur time. Tool me a year before I started. Got stuff slowly over time.

@r0ckf1re Yup thats exactly how im doing it as well, this tank will only be started next year sometime. Slowly getting new things for the tank over the months(paydays) haha.
 
You can also look at our live phytoplankton and dense live zooplankton, absolutely no preservatives, nothing better than the real living thing, seives to separate them from water column

I get live phyto from a LFS , and then feed a little zoo as well. I also squirt invert frozen food onto my corals. I believe in a big skimmer and over feeding, but I'm still learning what works best.
 
i have used phyto plankton from seachem before and actually damaged some zoas frags.
i think its when you use it to target feed. not sure if it is to strong?

so just add to high flow area incase.
