skimmate not like it should be?

Maybe @George or @Anita can help...I suppose a person will get a better understanding of you'r "skimmate", if we know the basics..amount of Fish...how do you feed...heavy or not..type of Fishes might also be considered.."meaty treats"...I'm sure all that should be considered when trying to figure out if it's skimming a lot or a little...after all....a tank with little Livestock will surely skim "lighter" than a "heavy bio-load"..? I do stand corrected as I have the worst skimmer in the world...:p

Im feeding flakes twice a day,frozen foods twice to 3 times a week,feed my corals liquid food,(marine snow etc) twice a week,ive got a cleaner wrasse,2 clowns,bi colour blenny and a social wrasse.i would say I tend to over feed than under feed. So I would say that Ive got an above normal bio load. Maybe I can feed more. Wouldnt mind feeding the corals more often.

Im also not sure when it comes to skimmers and skimmate.
 
i have the same skimmer in a small 30l nano which is fairly lightly stocked. I also get a very watery skimate production and the agents here in Norway say that its fairly common on these skimmers. I get a very light green skimate on mine.
 
well effectivley by raiseing the skimmer you will skim a little 'drier' and thus get a slightly more concerntrated skimate which should be slightly darker.

i cant realy do that as I have a 150w MH above that 30l which dries the skimate out and thus it cakes to the inside skimmer neck.

have you done any modifications to the skimmer? i did a simple one of drilling through the top of it and putting airline tubing down to the pumps intake which improved the air through the skimmer and thus the skimate production drastically.

Hello Charl
Yes the skimmate is a little light in colour which means it is skimming a little wet, but that is not bad, you could close the air screw a quarter turn to make it a little dry or raise the skimmer 5-10mm out the water for the same result. Play around with your air intake so that you can arrive at just the colour you want. looking at your's I would try that quarter setting and wait a week.

If you think the skimmer is not performing like it should try cleeaning it with vinigar i clean my Tunze 9010 once a year by soaking it in vinigar and once i have cleand it it skims like a Beast!

Gonna try playing around and see how I can get my skimmate a little darker. As long as it is still taking out crap out the water. Im happy. Thanks for the reply.

I should think of cleaning it. Ive only had the skimmer for a few months but that doesnt mean that it cant be dirty. will check it out. thank you.
