Which clowns for a BTA?

I finally found a BTA yesterday! The guy at the LFS said it's a "Purple Tip Bubble Anemone" - I'm not able to find any info on it though, and have only heard about a RBTA and GBTA. This ons is al olive green/light brown, with very light (almost fluorescent) bulbs, with a bright pink dot on the tip. Amazing how the tentacles change according to day/night. He's has moved to under a ledge where I guess he'll be for a while until he finds a spot he likes.

I read on another forum that anemones settle in better when they have a clown to host, I'm assuming it's because of the feeding or simply he'll feel more "at home" with natural things happening around him?

I want to get a clownfish today, and read that in nature the Maroon and Tomato clowns are most often found with the BTA's. Can I keep two of either Maroon or Tomato clowns? Which clowns would be the better option and why?
 
Maroon and tomato clowns are both pretty agro, so take that into account.

To my knowledge it is not esential for an anemone to have a clown, whether or not it will settle in better I almost doubt.

But wait for more advice on this. Especially anemone, she is the expert.

So I decided on two Tomato clowns. Read Maroons will really become a problem and they're not so nice once fully grown. I was lucky to get two tomato's that were kept together in a tank at the LFS and seem to get along with each other.
 
Tomatoes just like the maroon also get very aggro according to websites. I have two tomatoes and I must say they are very docile little fish. Maybe they become more agro with age...

Are yous sure he said purple tip anemone, maybe he meant purple base anemone. What color is the base of the bta?

I've also read they're a bit agro, although less agro than the maroons. I've put them in the tank and within an hour or so they were happy in the nem.

The guy def said purple tip bubble anemone - I still thought it weird 'cos I've never heard of it, only know the red and green BTA's and then earlier saw a "Sand BTA" at another LFS. My nem's base is the same purple as coralline. THis morning when the lights came on it moved to under a rock, so I turned off some of the lights and he's coming out again - will take some time to get him used to my lights that are stronger than the shop's.
 
It's probably what he meant. You get various color forms of the base of bubble tips. red, green, tan, purple. The correct name for your bubble tip would be the purple base bubble anemone. Posts some pics it would help to identify. A few pet shops have adapted the "bubble tip" name to almost all anemones as bubbles are the easier of the family. It's false advertising, and a lot of people get caught for not doing homework and then their nennie dies. Just leave the guy there, keep the dimmer lights on and slowly increase the main lights daily,ex. 2 hours mh, 3 hours, 4 hours etc etc. Good luck, remember to feed 1-2 times a week with food like mussels, krill, any high protein marine meaty food actually.

Thanks man. I usually research before I buy, but have been looking for a BTA for quite sometime so I figured.... :)

As soion as he's moved to a better spot I'll take a pic and post here.

Henk you're causing heart failure on this side buddy :eek: I really hope it's not Magnifica, but sitting and looking at it now it could possibly be. It's opened up quite large. I'll take a pic asap and post here for accurate ID.

It's got the colors of a newly imported H. magnifica but it's got bubble type tips.... lets see what @Anemone says

Ok cool. Thanks Henk for pointing out that it might be a Magnifica - if it is I'll probably be looking for a better home for it as I'm not geared up to take proper care of it. Lol it took me the whole morning to decide "ok take the BTA" so you can just imagine the panic here... If I had known that I would never have bought it, but in the shop it was much smaller than it is now and really looked like a bubble tip. Hope @Anemone sees this very soon.

Another thing that let me believe it might be a BTA, is it has stuck it's base under a ledge /few rocks with the tentacles coming out. Also if I understand correctly, Magnifica would move to the higher point in the tank, whereas my nem is sitting on rockwork about 10cm or less from the bottom in a 65cm deep tank with T5's.

Yea thats why i say lets see what the expert says. Looks like magnifica but behaves like BTA :D
 
I'm going with bubble tip, as I have a magnifica and it doesn't resemble the tentacles. I do know that some cases the magnifica can develop bubble tips but this looks to developed. Agree and wait for anemone.

I think the correct term is magbubblia... Latyn name Heteractis quadricolor :lol::lol:
