Hi reefers,

i have a 6 stage R.O water unit from water well. the last stage is a mineral ball that has the following description on the filter cartridge.

Mineral Ball - Contains far-infrared mineralized balls. Far-infrared mineralized balls processed water contains more minerals for health. Moleccule of water being devided to smaller group performs better osmosis ability. Resolvability are easily absorbed by body for metabolism.

Now, my question, and i would appreciate if someone can tell me if this is a good thing or not, and off coarse i would like some facts to support whatever your theory is.

The mineral ball re-mineralises the water to make it safe for human consumption. I wouldn't use it for a marine tank but for drinking water it is a good thing as RO water is too pure to safely drink. Your system should have the following in order of flow. 1 or 2 sediment filters, carbon block, RO membrane and DI Resin cartridge.

Good to drink, Bad for tank. Reason remineralisation will raise TDS. If you disconect the mineral balls you can probably use it for the tank

butherman, i can't agree with the fact that you say it raises the TDS. I have tested the TDS and its 4. I aslo have access to a 5-stage RO unit and after relacing the cartridges the other day i tested straight away in it was also 4. :)

manic agree with you on that one, surely it makes its safe for human consumption, but i don't think that iputting back good minerals thats good for us is bad for fish and corals?

If i read this last part it tells me that is good..."Resolvability are easily absorbed by body for metabolism" all living organisms have metabolism.

I have used this water for like 2 months already and found nothing out of the ordinary.

I wish that theeee fisheeees can tell me if they like or not?

Pehaps your TDS meter is stuck on 4

ok so back on my question? anyone else?

where is the waterboy, would like to know what he thinks about the whole mineral ball thingy. someone call him please. :)

please guys, can anyone give me solid evidence that using a mineral ball as a 6-stage on a RO unit is not a good idea. your help will be appreciated!

Why do you want evidence ?? Just take it off, problem solved.

that is just a lazy answer.;) yes taking it off is problem solved....but what do i gain out of it...nottin just lazy people go that route  i like to fill the brain with useful info. tickle other people's brain too.

its so easy to write answers and post a reply of what you think or makes logical sense, but without "evidence" or good quality reasons that supports your answer it doesn't mean much. Good answers is what build this hobby and our knowledge to get closer to perfection so that our systems can thrive all the time. thats why im looking for "evidence". lets replace evidence with - good quality answers. some nice pro vs cons will be a good start.

feel like an investigation officer here. :) nemo got killed at i have no leads accept for mr mineral ball.

Well, you don't need the "ball" as there are loads of stunning tanks with difficult to keep corals and invertebrates just using a 4 stage RO/DI unit from the Waterboy - testing 0 for TDS.
The RO/DI unit strip the water of everything, good and bad minerals - then when you add the reef salt, it replaces all the needed trace elements that is in the ocean which the corals and inverts need.

I think that is enough evidence ;)
