hey guys

im am wanting to move from my 3ft to my 5ft custom in the near future. only thing is, is that it doesnt have an over flow. does anyone know how i can add one. i got told that i cant do it unless i take a pane out. which is impossible..

Les, any ideas?

thanks

Drill the tank?

yeah, other than getting a unit. is there any other way?

i was thinking of drilling 2-3 holes..

Reef Octopus, Tunze, Schuran all do overflow boxes, or check under our Links section, I'm sure there are a couple of links there on how to DIY one.

There is a nice design on a Philippines forum posted somewhere. I'm using the concept on my tank.

I need to look for that link.

But here is another on the same concept

bring it lets drill it and put a box on, its going to be the cheapest simplest solution.. give me a shout in the morning and we can sort it out..

Agreed, My 5ft is p and running, albeit not full but I've build my overflow box and I'll be drilling it as soon as I get the drill bit. Only hassle is its kind permanent. Make sure its what you want. Good Luck

Thanks Les, what kind of cost we looking at?

tank is not ready to be done. but will give you a shout in the future

shot mate

PS: how *** is this east wind!?

by the way dude.. when i do drill it. could you do it here? biggest MISSION ever to move. its 1.5 x 50x 70! too heavy! i live in beacon bay

cool we can try make a plan. it takes a few minites to do depeding on what you are wanting done. we can talk frags :) or something.... the east sucks i havent surfed in like a month now, im getting really agitated...

Standard overflow boxes only work if you dont have euro bracing on the tank. If you do then the only way is to drill the tank. Really not that hard to do. The only consideration is whether to make overflow boxes on the back of the tank or a center/corner overflow where you drill in the base?

i would like the overflow on the side. easier to work with

bruce for this to happen you would need to drill holes through the side pane

then you could do one of 2 things:

build a box inside to allow the water to skim and plumb piping to the holes

ORbuild a box both inside and outside (inner one for surface skimming and outer one to house Durso stand pipes etc..

it would be far simpler to put 1 overflow box either in one of the corners, both of the corners or center back..
