Hey everyone,

Just phoned a place called The Lamp House. Has anyone ever bought any globes from them. According to their website they import MH globes specially for marine aquarium use. And there prices WOW. Feel like I've been ripped off before by other shops.

Manic I recently bought Actinic T5s from them (Sylvania, yes I know there's better makes out there...:p) and a BLV 14 000 kelvin 150w DE MH bulb. Prices were great and service really good, at the CPT branch.

There's a huge price difference and the people are very helpfull. Had to phone the cape town branch cos apparently people don't work on fridays up here in joburg.:)

Then its sorted I'm going on monday to buy from them. How much difference in quality is there? Can the price difference justify it?

Manic to be honest I've used Sylvania products for quite some time. I used mostly sylvania tubes over my FW Planted setup and never had problems. My plants grew better than some guys with MH lighting on their tanks.

I got the T5s at about 30% to 40% (Depends on which shop you ask) less than shop prices.

As I said before there's better tubes out there; but finding what you looking for when you are looking for it and as a bonus at the right price is why I bought them and will most probably buy them again in a couple of months when they need replacing.

In the end read reviews and other opinions and decide for yourself if the Sylvania tubes will work for you.

What make are their MH cos not looking for T5's at the moment. Can you please pm the prices of the T5's cos I know somewhere, where I can get reeftek T5's for cheap, just wanna compare prices and dont feel like phoning them again.

Don't waste your money, the Reeftek's are good for 4-6 weeks and they start declining very quickly.

If you are going the T5 route, go Geisemann, IMO they are the best and a 6 month old globe still pushes out almost the same light intensity as a brand new unit.

They are really very impressive

ATI is also very good;)

Whats the price difference between the geisemann and reefteks. Haven't ever seen guisemann's at a fish shop. Probably because i dont look to hard but i always seem to see reefteks.

HUGE, probably X2 the price, if not more.

But it is like comparing TATA to a Ferrari :p

Twice the difference. I've seen reefteks for R80 (Cheapest I could find them) so i'm assuming geisemann's are in the region of R300?

YIP and there is not much difference between 54 and 80 watts, so if you can squeeze it in, go the 80watt route.

I've seen Geisemans at a very similar price to Reeftek at VIP.

And, Tony, how does the pricing of VIP compare to "The Lamphouse's" pricing? I know we are talking about different products here.

BUT - BLV and Sylvania has been used in the marine aquarium hobby for a VERY VERY long time, and are still firm favourites of many reefkeepers.... Even if you HAVE to replace the globes more often than eg. Geissemann......

I'm not sure how they compare to lamphouse but the price similarity between the Geisemann and the Reeftek bulb are remarkable considering the differences in quality

The globes from Lamphouse are 50% cheaper but don't have the spectrum quality or diversity of the Geisemann range
