The time has come for me to replace my MH bulbs again.
Over the last few years I have been importing MH bulbs for myself as I struggle to find
something I like locally .
I have been out of touch with the local market for a while now and was wondering what brands of metal halide bulbs we have available here in SA and who stocks them.

As you know im running the 12K Coralvue bulbs.
Looking at trying out Geisieman next. But i beleive those bulbs are hectically priced.I think Northlands stock these bulbs.

Did u get the CV bulbs in SA Mek and do they still have any stock?
I only managed to find them overseas hence why I am asking.

CoralVue
Aquamedic
Geisseman
BLV

Don't thinks there's much more than that besides the "no-name-brands".

I'v heared that these no name brand bulbs have come out of the XM factory.

Thanks Mek ,but that means nothing to me .I have heard of a lot of things being made in well know factory's.
Anyone here using them?

It's still possible for factories to make different things hey... Or even go through QA and some stuff comes out as XM and others as nonamebrand so they can recover some money from the ones that didn't turn out so well etc.

Puppy a popular "no name" would be Venture. Quite a few people use these. Some claim to even prefer them.

Millepora runs them on his systems, and seems to be getting awsome colours out of them.I previously ran the 150W DE 14K on my old system.Gave me good colour and growth.

I used venture bulbs a few years ago and cant remember my results come to think of it.
I read that the 10K venture bulb burns like a 13K light is this true?

I think it's called the 10K+ and yes, burns like a 14K, much more so than the BLV 14K in my experience.

Dean i take it u are using the Venture 10K + then.
Any idea what the $ and par rating is ?

No, I was previously using the Ventures but decided to try the BLV's and bought 3 of the 150w BLV 14K, I was very disappointed with the colour output of them, the Ventures looked so much better with a more crisper blueish white light, however, the BLV's do apparently have a much higher PAR rating than the Venture's.

At the time, about 1 year ago, the Venture's were about R300 I think and the BLV's I paid R550 each.

I have used BLV in K10 and 14K and never got used to them.Growth was good but I could never settle on the color.
Do u know if venture makes a 400watt 10K + .I just spoke to venture in CPT and they recon that the 10K + is 150 watt DE bulb .
I would like to get hold of something in the 12K and above range.

Let me put it this way.I want both but I need something that is lighter on the eyes as the tank is standing in the lounge .
10K bulbs seems to blind my visitors.:)
