phosphate additive

My nutrients are at undetectable levels and my coral are starting to suffer from it.
So im wanting to add.

im also considering experimenting with this..nutrients are so low that my star polyps have died off...where can I get potassium nitrate in bulk? I used salt petre (which is potassium nitrate) and mixed 40 gram with 500ml ro water last night and dosed 3 ml into my tank..will check how things look later

where can I get potassium nitrate in bulk?

Considering its other uses, getting your hands on bulk quantities may be tricky. Try contacting Sigma, they will have but will be pricey.

What about using the freshwater additives used for planted tanks? I think seachem has a phosphate additive

don't wana derail @DavidM's thread..increased feeding to two or three times a day but not much improvement. I like working with the nitrate dosing as its easies to control than just feeding more..ie you only adding specific elements as you want where as with food you adding organics, phosphates etc
@DavidM..are you carbon dosing? if so what carbon dosing method are you using?

Has anyone checked out DSR reefing it might have some relevance here

Have also been feeding more than usual lately and have seen a improvement in some sps frags that i have.

Hi All

I do this often. I use Salpeter for nitrate and for phosphate I use a produce from seachem for fresh water tanks called activate

Works Like a charm and I can use them to reduce eachother as I please.

I had the same problem few months back. Tank was too clean and corals were gone pale and just not growing. This is what I did :

1. I was always a bare bottom fan (still am) but decided to chuck in sand, this way there was a place for nutrients to build up.

2. Added more fish and watched.

3. Added even more fish.

4. Began to feed heavy, 3- 4 times a day, a mixture of frozen foods, but just enough that fish will consume in under 2 minutes.

After feeding heavier for the past week i did some tests on Saturday.
NO3=1ppm
PO4=0.03ppm
Just where i want it so will ease of the feeding a little and try maintain it there.
