Hi guys,
My magnesium is sitting on 1080. (using a Salifert test kit)
I'm bought some Seachem's Reef Advantage Magnesium to push it up.

But to my shock I must use about 667 grm of this stuff to raise the mg with 190. (I have +- 280lt water volume)
It is according to the Reef Chemistry Calculator.
Can this be correct? I don't want to overdose because of some mistake..
Which means I have to buy more than double qty.

Epsom Salt is a lot cheaper to raise magnesium levels. I would use that to increase it to your desired level and then use the expensive stuff just for maintaining the level if you want.

@viper357, is it possible that you can outline in detail the procedure to be followed with the Epsom salt.

I would also like to use it per your advice, thereafter more expensive product once desired level achieved.

Use this page to work it out how much you need - Magnesium Supplements

To get your MG up to 1300, for example, you will need 625 grams of Epsom Salts mixed with RO water. I use 2l coke bottles and mix half in one bottle and half in another, then let it drip into the tank slowly. I normally let about 1 litre drip during the course of the day, wait overnight, then test in the morning to see how much it's gone up by, then I carry on like that until my levels are where I want them.

Are you checking ph alk and cal readings aswell. They are important to consider as they work together.

The problem with Epson salt is the extra sulfates...
I'm not to keen to do a water change soon.

But I ques it's either the expensive stuff to raise the mg, or the cheap stuff to raise the mg and do a water change. It will probably cost the same in the long run then.

Do a nice amout of water change using a good salt mix then test you levels a dose accordingly ......I found that works well
